Fuck. That wasn't what I meant to say. I came here with a plan- mine and Jeremiah's plan. I meant to come here to spy and then start a fight with Elena for being a brat and ignoring me back at her house earlier today, just for fun. But the moment we were caught and she looked up at me with those judgy big brown eyes of hers, I folded. I folded quickly.

Of course, I would have asked her out on a date eventually but according to the plan Jeremiah and I drew out- it wasn't supposed to happen at the boardwalk while purposely spying on her. We were never meant to get caught. I knew those ridiculous huge mustaches wouldn't work but Jeremiah insisted.

But as we watched Elena, Max and Shayla from afar spying, I realized I didn't want to be standing from afar next to my brother, no, I wanted to be standing beside her. Laughing and eating stupid sweets and playing dumb arcade games. I was jealous that Max was getting those moments with Elena and not me. You never know how many moments you get with a person in life and I'm done wasting time and not getting my own moments with her. I've wasted too many years already by pushing Elena away.

Suddenly the fresh scent of cotton candy filled my nostrils. I turned to look down at Elena who was mindlessly eating pieces of cotton candy from a stick. "I told you to get a corn dog. Not more sweets. You haven't eaten right?" I scolded.

Elena looked at me dumbfounded and I knew some annoying shit was about to come out of her mouth. "I'm sorry. I didn't know I was out with a parent," she said mockingly. "Besides, how could you not like sweets? I know it's not as sweet as my galletas de canela but it'll do."

I rolled my eyes as a small grin formed on my face. I watched as she grabbed another piece of cotton candy with her fingers. Elena noticed me watching and slowly stuck her tongue out placing the cotton candy on the tip, eating it excruciatingly slow. I don't know what came over me but the next second, I leaned down near her taking a bite from her cotton candy stick as I tilted my head to look at her watching me. Her eyes never left my mouth as I finished my bite and licked my lower lip. "Hmm," I hummed. "You were right. Not as sweet as you."

"I never said that-"

"How about this," I interrupted her. I know she didn't say that but it doesn't make it not true. "I challenge you to a game of skee-ball."

The confidence I felt after saying that, quickly began to disappear as I saw the smirk start to form on her face. The inner dimple on the corner of her mouth on full display just for me.

We stood in front of the skee-ball machine inside the arcade. "So what do I get once I win?" Elena asked, winding up her arms as if she's some sort of athlete getting ready to run a marathon.

"Calm down there, track star," I said. "How about a kiss from me?"

"Pass," Elena said with a yawn following after. This little brat. "Besides, that's not a prize. I already got that last night." I felt my cheeks immediately heat up after hearing her say that. She was getting bold with me and I liked that. I liked that she wasn't uncomfortable with me like she was with other guys.

"Wow. Fine, if you win, I'll pay for the rest of your sweets this entire summer," I said as she finally turned to look at me with a curious expression. I knew I had her with that one. Elena loved sweets. Granted, I don't have a lot of money but I have a small amount of savings dad started up for me when I head off to college this fall. Spending it on Elena to see her smile sounded a whole lot more appealing than spending it on college textbooks.

"But, if I win, I get a kiss from you," I added to the stipulations.

"That's really what you want?" She questioned looking up at me.
