An unspoken language was used between the twins just now and it left me confused. It wasn't uncommon for them to do this. Most of the time it was when they were about to get in trouble for doing something stupid by their parents but this time it felt different, more serious and intense.

Daniel excused himself to go to the restroom before we all left, leaving Elena and I standing in an awkward silence outside the ice cream shop. I leaned against the cream color pole while she leaned her back against the wooden rails typing away on her phone not bothering to look up. A frown appeared on her face and I furrowed my eyebrows wondering what caused her to look so conflicted.

A few more minutes passed and here she was in a skin tight long black dress that hugged her curves perfectly while all the girls our age wear flowy short bright colored sundresses. It irritated me for some reason but I also enjoyed the view. But, I wasn't the only one enjoying the view, every male eyes raked down her body as they passed by, causing me to shoot them a warning look.

"You know, you don't have to act like my protector when Daniel isn't around," she said, finally looking up at me with a half smirk on her face.

My body tensed. I didn't think she caught me doing that because she was so invested in her phone. "I wasn't doing anything," I tried playing it off cool.

"Right," she laughed and I felt my heart tug slightly. What is wrong with me? "Because you aren't giving every male that passes by looking at me the death stare," she continued.

Nonchalantly, I shrugged my shoulders deciding it was safer to change the subject and asked, "Why were you frowning just now?"

She gave me a confused look and I'm not surprised. The words left my mouth before I could stop myself. It's not common for me to ask her these types of questions, at least not recently. At one point I did, asking her all about her day.

Elena hesitated on answering but eventually sighed and said, "it's Jacob texting me. He's apologizing for what he said and wants to meet up again, possibly tonight."

"Well you aren't going to," I scoffed.

She raised a challenging eyebrow, a small dimple appearing on the inner curve of her smirk. "Are you going to stop me, Fisher?" She said as she stepped closer towards me, a little too close for my liking.

I felt my face heat up as her body was inches away from mine, our chest almost touching. She was messing with me, trying to get the upper hand but I wasn't going to give her that satisfaction. I wasn't going to let her win. She thinks I'm going to back down, but boy is she wrong. I easily towered over her tiny figure since she was so short. I leaned down, the breath from her small gasp hit my face. Her intoxicating scent of cinnamon and vanilla clouded my mind. Sugar and spice and everything but nice. That's what she reminded me of.

Her gaze landed on my lips for a quick second then back to my eyes. It was so quick because if I wasn't already staring into those big brown eyes of hers, I would have missed it completely. In a low voice, I said, "because if you do go, I'll be there to have you staring right at me instead of him, again."

Her eyes widened as her cheeks turned a bright red. She turned to look to her right to avoid my gaze, saying, "I only looked at you because you were already staring at me."

"I guess my presence has that much of an effect on you, huh?" I leaned away winking at her.

I noticed it right away. How her body changed from defensive when she was with Jacob to relaxed and comfortable around me. The thrill she always got from a challenge is something I have always admired about her. I think that's why I enjoy pushing her buttons as much as I despise her. Anyone else would call me mean but not Elena, she bites back.
