Song of the Chapter

I wanna follow where she goes
I think about her and she knows it
I wanna let her take control
'Cause every time that she gets close, yeah

She pulls me in enough to keep me guessing, mmm
And maybe I should stop and start confessing
Confessing, yeah

There's nothing holdin' me back by Shawn Mendes

Dimitri's Point of View

I was seated across of Matilda Titus, my future fiancée, in an Italian pizzeria in the city. It was most definitely not a date. Matilda and I were far from dating. We were more like friendly acquaintances. She had her reasons for putting herself into this future marriage agreement.

Wonder why we were meeting in a pizzeria? Well, we love pizza. One of the two things we had in common. 1. we love pizza and 2. we have wealthy parents.

Matilda crossed her arms and asked, "You never told me who was that girl from the week before. Who is she?"

I raised my eyebrow at her and smirked, "Jealous?"

"Hardly," she answered and sipped on her drink. I sighed and looked at her seriously. Something was up with her. Usually, she would have insulted me in some kind of way. Many people saw her as a spoiled brat-at first I did too, until she opened her heart to me.

"How's your boyfriend?" I asked, leaning into my chair. Yes, Matilda had a boyfriend, a lover. But their relationship was fractured and hardly holding on well. It was like that for many reasons. I looked at her blue eyes and saw the invisible wall she had built crumbled down.

She looked down and played with her fork. She swallowed and said, "The doctor says he only has four months left." Her eyes lifted up to me and tears swelled in them. "I'm scared."

Matilda's boyfriend had cancer and it was not easy for her. He was the main reason why she was my future fiancée. An agreement she had between her parents.

"My parents have been paying for his medical expenses on one condition: I marry you. Every second with you feels like I'm betraying John. He's there in his apartment getting sicker and sicker everyday and here I am eating pizza. I don't even know if he's going to make it. He doesn't know that I'm your future fiancée. I don't want him to know. I don't want to lose him," she said quietly. I felt pain in my chest. My reason for staying in this agreement was not as passionate and loving as Matilda's. I was doing it because of my parents. My whole life was planned out for me. I was puppet to my parents. The dreams they did not achieve, they were making sure that I did and mistakes were something foreign to them.

Shaking her head, she picked up a slice of pizza and bit into it. I watched as she ate her pizza. I remained silence not knowing how to comfort her. She brushed her hands together and asked, "Who's the brunette?" I snapped out of my thoughts and her question registered into my mind.
