Song of the Chapter

  One look, dark room
Meant just for you
Time moved too fast
You play it back
Buttons on a coat
Lighthearted joke
No proof, not much
But you saw enough
Small talk, he drives
Coffee at midnight
The light reflects
The chain on your neck
He says, "Look up."
And your shoulders brush
No proof, one touch
But you felt enough

Rose's Point of View

TAP!

My patience was running dry and annoyance was crawling its way up my spine. One more time I knew I would snap. Mister Ingram spoke about Adolf Hitler and added some of his own ideas, too. It seemed that Mister Ingram was not a big fan of Hitler. But from the I knew, he was part Jewish. His slight hatred for Hitler was understandable.

TAP!

I whipped my head to the person who was tapping me. My eyes narrowed at Dimitri who was behind me. "Stop it!" I mouthed seriously to him. He smirked in amusement.

Boy, if I get an A- on my report card......

I glared at him and turned back to my work. As I did, I heard some girls sharing meaningful glances at each other. I ignored them and reminded myself that I was not the same Rose anymore. I was better than that. I concentrated on what Mister Ingram was saying, but lost my focus when I felt something hard tapping continually on my shoulder.

"Dimitri, stop it!" I whispered, a little too loudly. All eyes were on us and I felt my cheeks burning with embarrassment. Dimitri, on the other hand, was trying to keep himself from laughing. I slowly turned my head toward Mister Ingram when he cleared his throat. I bit my lower lip and said, "I apologi-"

"Detention for both of you."

"This is all your fault!" I accused Dimitri while jabbing my finger to his chest. I couldn't believe it. My first detention! I wasn't thrilled about it at all. I was actually proud that I have never gotten detention before, but he just had to ruin it. I was focusing on the lesson and Dimitri just had to annoy me. And it wasn't my fault at all. I really did try to ignore his tapping during class. I really did.

He chuckled finding this situation funny. It wasn't close to funny at all. I glared at him and swung my backpack over my shoulder making my way out of the school. Then I heard heavy footsteps coming up behind me. He wrapped his arms around my waist keeping me from walking away. His sudden touch made my heart race and my stomach in knots. I sighed and asked, "What?"
