Chapter 5: Hospital Stay: Part 1

Iza stretches her arms over her head and pulls the blank fully back exposing her legs to the cool hospital room. The nurses had hooked Iza up to a walkable IV pole a few minutes prior. She was given permission to walk about the room in order not to get sore from lying in bed. Iza placed her bare feet on the floor and made her way to the door with the bathroom sign.

The bathroom looked straight out of a high-class hotel. Stone tile lined the floor and made its way up the ceiling where the shower was. The shower itself had an entire shower system of its own. It had multiple body sprayers along the back wall and a shower head coming out of the ceiling the size of a sunflower in full bloom, on each side of the body sprayers, there was a drop-down handheld shower head.

Iza made a mental note to try body jets out later as her body could use the relief. The rest of the room was just as grand. The toilet had buttons for every multiple setting options, and the sink was set in a solid countertop that was big enough for her to lie on.

She opened the cabinets below the sink and found a few types of shampoo and conditioner and a bar of soap. Iza brought her hand to the soap bar and took a sniff enjoying the soft rose scent coming from the bar. She placed her desired shampoo and conditioner combination in the shower with the soap and planned to get a shower after Loyd left.

Leaving the bathroom and closing the door behind her, Iza saw a nurse was stationed at her bed changing out the sheets. Politely interrupting her work, Iza asked if there was any possibility of getting a spare set of clothes for after her evening shower. The nurse smiled and pointed to a dresser under the window.

"You can find a variety of sized clothes in the chest; each drawer is different. The top one will hold undergarments, the second is casual day clothes, and the bottom drawer has sleep clothes. Choose whichever one you feel most comfortable in."

Iza replied with a shake of her head and made her way over to the drawers. Thinking it over to herself, this hospital had a lot to offer, she had never been given this type of care in a hospital stay before. Was she in an upgraded room or perhaps Loyd paid for a private service for her? Either way, she would enjoy the next few days of this before she would leave for the estate Loyd had mentioned earlier in the day.

Just as Iza was searching for new clothes Loyd came into the room carting a large roller cart of food. Iza was shocked, surely, he knew that she couldn't eat everything he brought by herself, nor did she think the two of them capable of finishing it together if they tried.

Loyd pushed the cart into the room and closed the door behind him, he gestured to the bed and Iza walked over to it sitting cross-legged in anticipation. Loyd went to a small closet out of sight behind her bed and fished out two eating tables, one clicked into the bed and folded over Iza's lap and the other was rolled over to the chair he had been sitting in prior.

Loyd wheeled the cart of food over and scratched the back of his head a small flush over his cheeks.

"I didn't know what you would like or what you could tolerate so I brought a little of everything."

Iza gave him a small giggle as a reply

Loyd began to open the covered platters revealing steaming food with a delicious scent radiating off. Iza's mouth watered with each plate revealed and by the time the last plate was shown her stomach growled at Loyd to hurry up.

Just as they were about to start Loyd bolted up from his seat saying that he had forgotten their drinks. As he walked quickly in the direction of the door, a staff member opened the door with a tray of drinks. Loyd thanked the staff member and took the tray of drinks to Iza's side.

"I have a few herbal teas, hot water, and this drink, which is apparently very popular, it's called bubble tea, I think? I had them make their most popular flavor, one with the beads and one without."

He sets the tray of drinks on her table so that she can choose an option or two. Iza reaches out for a glass of herbal tea and hesitates on the other drink Loyd made sure to get special for her.

"Oh, I have heard about these before but never gotten around to trying them. Want to try them together?" Iza offers Loyd.

Loyd shakes his head and responds "Eh" and lets Iza choose which one she would prefer to try.

They each collected portions of food onto their plates and began to dig in. Iza practically moaned in pleasure when she took the first bite, this was the best food she had ever tasted. Loyd laughed at her reaction.

"Yeah, it's pretty good, right? The chef can make the best food I've ever tasted. When they first applied here, they swore that they could make even dirt taste good. Of course, I didn't believe them until they challenged me during the first interview. Not liking their cocky presence, I was close to refusing a second interview with them, but my interest was piqued, to say the least. The following week the second interview was set up so they could show off their cooking. The chef had spent the entire week searching for some of the world's most unique dishes to serve me. He refused to tell me anything about what I was about to eat beforehand like most of the previous interview chefs had. I became suspicious of him trying to poison me, so I had medical staff on standby and had a food tester try the food before me that day. After the tester said the food was safe, I gave the mystery food a try. That cocky bastard even declared... "Loyd made quotation marks with his fingers and continued "that my reaction after the first bite would be enough to know if they got the job."

Loyd laughed about the memory, "Of course he was right! After the first bite, I was speechless and ordered him to show me how he made them. To my surprise nothing was cheated, they had made everything from scratch, and they were the real deal."

Iza laughed and enjoyed the story as she ate, wondering what deal with the devil this chef must have made to be so confident in his ability.

Having forgotten about the special drink after a few bites of food, Iza goes to pick it up and asks Loyd to try it with her at the same time. They both take a sip on the count of three. Iza was delighted with the taste and the squishy balls at the bottom had burst more flavor into her mouth. Loyd was also pleasantly surprised by how much he enjoyed the drink. Without a second thought, Iza pushed her drink in Loyd's direction and asked him to try hers since it had the flavor balls in it. Loyd took a sip of her drink, his eyes lit up at the burst of flavor the balls added.

"They're both good but next time I will make sure to order both of ours with those balls in it."

With a satisfied look on her face, Iza took another sip shaking her head in approval.

They sat and enjoyed each other's company as they continued to talk and eat. Iza was slowly growing full, she slowed down and by the time her plate was empty she wasn't able to eat another bite. She placed her dirty dish back onto the cart and patted her belly in satisfaction. She looks at the food left; they didn't even make a dent. She felt bad having to waste so much.

Loyd finished his plate too and stacked it on top of Iza's, after he did so as if on cue a staff member came in to collect the remaining food and dirty dishes, while another member offered warm washcloths to the two of them. Cleaning their hands, they both thank the staff and give an awkward glance in each other's direction.

Loyd breaks the silence and gets up from his chair, "Will you be alright here alone by yourself tonight? I'm going to be staying in a guest room down the hall. You're welcome to call me or come by if you need anything or wish to visit. I plan to come back tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. to get your breakfast order. We can eat together again if you would like, or if you would like some space, I'll just drop your food and go."

Iza with a smile on her lip replies, "Breakfast together tomorrow sounds great, I'll see you then."

With that, Loyd says a final goodbye for the night.
