Morning sunlight creeps into the hospital room, Iza is woken when the sunlight meets her closed-lidded eyes. She blinks awake only to realize that she feels as if a bag of rocks is lying on top of her, she stirs in bed managing to look over her shoulder to find Loyd lying behind her. A large blush crept from her cheeks to the tips of her ears, his hand was wrapped tightly around her waist. She could feel his breath on the back of her neck and the close contact made her stomach feel warm. With his hand around her, it made it difficult to move.

When did he get into bed with her, she thought to herself. She doesn't remember inviting him to join her last night. After the initial blush from the close contact between the two of them, Iza didn't mind how he came to be in her bed, she soon found it comfortable to lay between his arms. It warmed her and she felt safe, Iza thought it strange considering they had only known each other for a few days at this point. Iza wanted nothing more than to cozy back up and fall back to sleep but her bladder had another plan in mind.

Iza tried to lift Loyd's arm from around her to creep out of the bed. His arm was heavy, but she was just able to lift it enough to break free. She slid a pillow under his arm and tiptoed to the bathroom hoping she didn't disturb or wake him.

Iza gave a stretch of her body after using the bathroom and left for the kitchen, she wanted to give Loyd time to sleep as he seemed tired after running errands in the city the previous day.

She finds the chef in the kitchen mulling away at something. They greet her with a warm smile as she enters. Iza asked if they knew what Loyd liked in the mornings, she wanted to surprise him with breakfast in bed.

The chef thought it over and decided to make Mantou. Iza's mouth began to water at the mention of steam buns. Iza asked the chef if she could help, and they were happy she wanted to join in.

They asked her to wait a moment as they wanted to wipe the counters before starting. They both washed their hands and the chef walked Iza to a machine she hadn't seen before. The chef explains that it is a milling machine that allows them to make fresh flour.

The chef started the loud grinder and began feeding it wheat berries, the machine ground the berries and spit out dust of flour from the lower spout into a bowl. The bowl took only a few minutes for it to fill.

Iza watched as the chef shuffled around the kitchen, pulling out the last of the ingredients. On the counter lay a container of yeast, baking powder, and honey, a jar of marmalade, some butter, and a few types of meat.

The chef told her they were using pastirma, a seasoned air-dried cured beef, sujuk, a dry spicy fermented sausage, and seasoned pork sausage. Iza hadn't heard of the first two the chef had mentioned, but they promised her that the buns would turn out similar to a meat pie.

Iza glanced over at the selected meats, after finding out they were going to fill the buns with it and back over to the marmalade. Iza thought to herself about the purpose of the marmalade, but without a clue, she decided to ask. She points over to the marmalade and asks if they were going to mix it in with the meat; the chef laughs and lets her know that they are making a variety of options.

Grabbing a scale from under the counter the chef weighs the yeast and baking powder on a scale and has Iza add and mix the dry goods while they pull out a meat grinder.

As the chef began work with the meat grinder, Iza became curious about the grinder as well. She had never used one before when cooking, having always bought pre-ground meat for cooking. She wanted to test it out for herself, but the chef was insistent that he do it themself, not wanting Iza to get injured. Iza understood the chef's concerns after they showed her the blades, and she watched the chef work while finishing up with the dry goods.
