004 - Thursday
The next couple of days, I had gotten West's number and we worked around his and his friends' workout schedule. He became my sparring partner and he helped me work on my defense.
In school I talked to none of them. Only Fran and Cel, we quickly became friends.
Today was Thursday and I had been dreading the bells ringing, to signal our day was over. Chase was waiting outside, to take me out. Not home, my orders.
"I'll see you tomorrow" I told the girls, who looked at me confused as we walked out of the school building and onto the parking lot. "You're not riding with us today?" Fran asked me.
"No, I have something to take care of. But I'll see you tomorrow" I assured her and shot a restrained smile. I saw Chase's brand new Mercedes and sighed.
I took a step towards it and saw him step out, it was exactly what I had dreaded. I didn't want people to see him, to make a scene.
I hurried towards him, accidentally ignoring West who had attempted to walk up to Fran, Cel and I. "Get back in the car, now" I hissed at him once I approached him.
"Nic, wow–you look–""--Yeah, yeah. Get in the car, let's go" I said and glanced over my shoulder, seeing Celina, Francesca and West stand together, watching me.
"Alright, let's go" He said with a small laugh. I shook my head slightly as I got into his car and caught sight of Mitch leaning against his McLaren, his eyes burning holes in my skin.
Chase took off, leaving black tire marks on the spot. I saw people turn to us and I hid my face a little as he raced out of the parking lot.
"I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am to see you, you look well" He said and glanced over at me.
My phone began to buzz in my lap and I glanced at the screen 'West' flashed across it, I silenced the call and turned the screen around.
"Why are you here, Chase?" I ask him. It didn't mean anything good for anyone if Chase showed up in a place he wasn't supposed to be.
"Ward is worried as hell, he hasn't seen you for months, not since before the incident" He said and eyed me.
"Well, I'm fine. You have confirmation. I'm just not ready to talk to him" I said and pointed to an abandoned parking lot.
"Okay, it's okay. I'll tell him you're well. I don't want to cause problems between the two of you" Chase said and put his hand on my thigh.
"If it's okay with you, I would like to see you again. I missed you, a lot" Chase said, I bit my lip and shook my head a little.
Why now, why, just why?
"I know a place in the city, let's go there" Chase said, his brown eyes convinced me, I swear that man and his brown deer eyes were going to be the death of me.
"Chase. It was hard for me to leave–""—Don't, it was your parents. They forced you because they wanted to protect you" Chase interrupted, I shook my head no.
"It was my idea, I needed change. I couldn't live in that city when I can't fight anyone, one more concussion and it's brain damage for life, Chase. I had to leave" I begged him to understand.
He nodded his head understandingly as I explained, he pulled me into a hug and I let him. For old times sake.
"I can't restart what we had, we have to move on, Chase. It's over" I half whispered as I pulled back a bit, to face him.
I cupped his face and he nodded, even though he nodded and showed he understood he leaned in to kiss me, I let him, for a moment of weakness.
A familiar feeling washed over me, the danger, the thrill, the hot sex while high on adrenaline, the intense moments.
I deepened the kiss and Chase followed my lead. "One last time?" He asked between kisses, I responded to that by continuing making out with him.
I needed him, I needed closure. Chase was willing to give it to me.
Somehow we ended up in his backseat, I straddled his hips as our lips spoke for us. Each piece of clothing disappeared from our bodies.
My phone began buzzing once again, but I couldn't care less. Chase laid me back on the seats, him hovering over me. His tattoos added the need for danger and my adrenaline ran high. He sank himself into me, my nails dug into his back as he began to fuck me.
My moans and his grunts filled the car, darkness settled as rain began to pour against the windows of the car. I moaned with a smile on my face, it was exactly what I needed.
Closure.
Hours later, we got dressed. It was late, so we found a place to eat. I texted my parents quickly that I wasn't coming home for dinner.
I ignored the missed calls. West had for some reason called four times, that's when I realized we had a session planned today, I cursed under my breath.
"What's up?" Chase asked as he ate his pasta. "I forgot I had a training thing today" I said with a small wince and put away my phone.
"Oh, you're training here in Jacksonville?" Chase asked and I nodded. "Just regular training and I'm keeping up my martial art skills" I said and he smirked.
"It was pretty hot watching you back then, you're skilled" Chase noted and I chuckled a little. "Thanks" I muttered and took another bite of my pasta.
"There was actually something I wanted to talk to you about, it was partly the reason I wanted to come here to see you" Chase said, the look on his face told me I was going to kill him within the next ten minutes. I knew there was another reason. He didn't just drive four hours to see me because he missed me. There was always a reason.
"Just say it" I said with a defeated sigh and placed my fork onto the plate. "It's Ward. He doesn't want to see the fact that you will never return to the tournaments. He keeps holding your spot, but the people want Daniella to take it" Chase said with a small wince.
"I thought Daniella got the spot as soon as my face hit that ground?" I ask him, confused. Why would my brother hold a spot open for me that I would never be able to take?
"No, Ward held her off of it. He hates her more than anyone. When she did those things to you–he lost it. He wants to keep her out of the ring, no matter what it takes and he knows it takes you coming back, he has hope" Chase said.
He had a sorrowful look in his eyes. I shook my head and felt pressure in my chest and tears brimming in my eyes. "Chase, I can't go back. I'll die if I receive too many hits, the damage is done. I'm done" I said.
He nodded his head, taking my words in. "I'll try to tell Ward once again, but if you don't mind me asking–why is it that you don't want to see him or talk to him?" Chase asked me carefully.
I took a deep shaky breath and sighed. "Because, Chase. You didn't see the look in his eyes. He had so much hope and support for me–it was gone the minute I failed him. I saw it in his eyes, I failed him. Not only my brother but my trainer, he worked hard to get me where I was and I failed him. Years of work down the drain, because I was weak. I still am, don't you see that? I'm not good for anything in that world" I tried to remain strong and keep my shit together as I poured my family issues out to him.
"Hey, it's okay. I never saw that look, I do see the look of hope lingering in his eyes whenever he speaks of you, and he's worried, he hasn't seen you since you were in that hospital bed" Chase said, he took my hand in his and I shook my head.
"It's over"
