Nicolina Martell moves to Jacksonville to escape her past, but she runs right into the world she tried to escape from.
Mitch Warner is a mute underg...
"Come on, show me that smile. I know it's hiding under that frown, come on" Kyle, said and poked my cheek as we walked down the halls. I slapped his hands away and he cackled in amusement.
"Just go with us, come on. It'll be fun, I know it's exactly what you need, trust me" Kyle added. I frowned at his attempt to know what I needed.
"And what do I need then? Please, do tell" I retorted with a dry chuckle. "I know you need a night out, you need to let go and have fun. So, we'll go to the UFC fight tonight, you, me, Davina and Jared" Kyled insisted.
"Fine, I'll give it a go, but I'm not making any promises" I warned him and he clapped his hands together and then threw his fist into the air to show his victory.
"Who is fighting tonight?" I asked him as we approached the classroom. "A rookie and Troy Johansson" Kyle said and I nodded my head and shrugged before settling down.
We'd gone to a few UFC fights here, since Kyle had found out about my past. I was sleeping with him, we were friends with benefits. It worked for us, it had been six months since the breakup.
I was ashamed to admit I hadn't gotten over Mitch, he was stuck in my heart. Which is why nothing further happened with Kyle. My heart belonged to Mitch, I knew it.
The day finally ended and I drowned myself in work. I had a few hours at a lawyer company on the side, to get my score up. It was safe to say I was doing well on paper, but I was still very much heartbroken.
It didn't take long for Kyle to stop by my dorm and get me, I had gotten dressed in a pair of black tight jeans and a hoodie with a leather jacket over it.
We met up with Jared and Davina, who were ready for the fight. "I can't wait to see hot sweaty guys fight" Davina retorted and I couldn't help but chuckle as Kyle bumped his shoulder with mine.
He hadn't told anyone of my past, luckily.
"Let's go inside" Jared called out, we got in along with the thousands of other people, somehow we'd gotten to the front rows. Davina wasted no time crawling over seats to get to the front.
Kyle and I snorted as we watched Jared try to keep up with her, she had no chill. Poor Jared.
We followed and Kyle kept close to me, the announcer started shouting eagerly to hype people up.
I clapped my hands and focused on the fighters tonight. Two pictures flashed across the screens in the arena and my heart dropped.
"No" I whispered and pushed people out of the way to get closer. Troy Johansson marched into the cage, I looked around and saw Mitch Warner himself walking up to the ring as well, his body was bigger than last time I saw him, he had new tattoos and sweat covered his skin.
He was then-he looked well. Annoying well.
But right now, my attention was on his opponent, Troy Johansson who was known for being ruthless and merciless. I prayed that Mitch had gotten better, not that he wasn't good-but this man was unstoppable.
Mitch was squaring up to Troy, their heights were nearly the same. I'd never wanted to walk away from watching a fight, but it took everything in me to stay.
The fight began and Troy started out fast and mercilessly, but to my surprise Mitch was faster, the two fought back and forth and had everyone sitting on the edge of their seats.
I was biting my nails as I watched the fight intensely. I wanted to look away every time Troy delivered a hard punch to Mitch's face or body, but I couldn't miss it.
I needed Mitch to turn the fight around, I needed him to win.
I needed to see that he worked hard and that he was succeeding in his career, in his biggest dream. It was coming true and I was praying that he would cease the moment.
It hurt to see him again, it hurt so fucking much, I wasn't prepared. He looked different, so different, the light in his eyes-the sparkle-it was gone.
He didn't smile, he didn't smirk at his opponent, he was just cold...stone faced. Untouchable and unreadable.
It was like seeing a darker version of him, his punches, kicks and hits were brutal. Fighting was brutal, but this- he was ruthless.
It made Troy Johansson look like a rookie. The roles reserved and it became the opposite, Troy was no longer in control. He was losing to a rookie.
People screamed, cheered and roared. Everything became too loud, my ears were ringing, it felt like everything turned into slow motion.
Troy landed another hit on Mitch, blood splattered out through the cage like walls, I felt a few droplets hit my hand, I looked down and saw his blood on my skin.
I looked back up only to see Mitch throw a final punch to Troy's face, letting him go out as a light. Mitch won.
People screamed, cheered and called out for him. Everyone knew his name. Mitch scanned the crowd, it was like he was looking for something, I bit my lip to stop the tears brimming in my eyes from falling.
I was so incredibly proud of him, but I also hated the fact that I wasn't the one to greet him afterwards and help him clean up his cuts and wounds.
It wasn't me he was going to celebrate with.
I slowly began to back up, as he continued to look around, his eyes searched desperately. I don't know who he was looking for, and I didn't want to know.
I pulled my hood up and turned on my heel, I wiped his blood off of my hand and turned back to Kyle. "I'm leaving" I said and he nodded before following me.
I heard Davina and Jared scream as Mitch made his way into the front row of the crowd, I looked over my shoulder and saw him standing where I had stood seconds ago.
His head whipped around, trying to spot me, I assumed. So, I turned my head back around and put my hands in my pockets before leaving the arena.
"You okay?" Kyle questioned. I nodded my head and followed him when he led the way outside safely, without another word.
I wanted to believe that Mitch had been looking for me, but why would he?
He should go to his cheer girls and celebrate, it's what every UFC fighter did best. What we had was long gone.
He shouldn't look for me in his crowds, I wouldn't be there. I couldn't be there for him. I didn't have the strength to, not to mention I didn't have the strength to talk to him, I ran out of there as soon as I had seen him succeed.
That was all I cared about, because if he was succeeding, he was thriving. That meant he wasn't broken and gave up on his dreams.
A small smile found its way to my face, despite the tears that escaped my eyes. Kyle and I walked back to our dorms, which were across from each other.
I pulled him into my small condo and he crashed his lips onto mine, I kissed him back, slightly wishing that it was Mitch.
I pushed Kyle back into the door as he closed it and I pulled his shirt over his head, not wasting any time.
Mitch was still fresh on my mind, but I needed damage control. Kyle was the solution. It took seconds before he fucking me over the counter, Mitch's name was fresh on my tongue, but I kept it in while flashes of Mitch and I fucking played in my head.
