Octavia sat on the rickety wooden stool her legs manspread as her odd socks proved to be the only bit of colour in her otherwise black and white outfit. Her elbows rested on the old wooden counter in front of her, bringing the coffee cup to her lips and taking a sip. Not even flinching as the burning liquid flowed down her throat.
"Where is he?" A voice broke her from her thoughts, as she glanced up to see her brother. Octavia shrugged, placing the coffee back on the counter.
"Late," she shrugged not caring anymore.
Her boyfriend Conner had set up this date after Octavia had confronted him about being distant... Octavia knew he wasn't coming but a small part of her mind made excuses for him. In the end, Octavia didn't care she was glad to be out for once.
A woman stumbled and grabbed onto a stool next to Octavia to steady herself. Octavia looked up, concern replacing her impatience as she saw the woman struggling to regain her balance.
"Are you okay?" Octavia questioned; her voice laced with genuine worry.
The woman let out a nervous laugh, her cheeks flushing slightly, "Yeah, just my usual clumsiness acting up again. Sorry," she apologised.
Octavia smiled warmly, "No worries, love. We all have our clumsy moments." Octavia assured.
The woman's eyes widened at the endearing term, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red. "Oh, um, thank you." she stammered.
Octavia noticed the woman's reaction and quickly realized her mistake. "Oh, I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable. It's just a habit of mine." Octavia apologised glancing at her older brother who was taking someone's order.
"No, no, I'm not uncomfortable at all. I kind of like it. It's, um, different." The woman managed a shy smile.
Octavia chuckled softly. "Well, then I'm glad. I'm Octavia." she greeted.
"Billie." the woman replied, extending her hand, and Octavia's heart skipped a beat as their hands met. There was an instant connection, a spark that Octavia couldn't ignore. Billie's smile was infectious, and Octavia found herself genuinely excited to meet someone new.
"Well, hello there, what can I get you, beautiful?" Octavia heard her brother's flirtatious voice question Billie.
Billie looked extremely uncomfortable, and Octavia's mouth opened wide in shock as it fuelled into a fiery anger. Without hesitation, she reached across the counter, her open hand connecting with Luke's cheek in a resounding smack. "Luke! Are you out of your mind!" she screamed.
Rubbing his cheek, Luke chuckled nervously, "Come on, Tavi, I was just having a little fun."
Billie clearly taken aback by the sudden escalation, attempted to calm Octavia's anger. "Hey, it's alright. I can handle it," she assured.
