"Y/N, you've been working on that research for days." Meredith mumbles, stumbling into the dimly lit room wrapped in blankets. I feel her arms around my neck and lean into her cooler body. She's right, I have been at this for over the twenty-four hour mark; the fact I can't figure it out is compelling me to stay.

"I'm sorry Mer, I really am. You know how my brain works."

"I know but please take a break, it will still be there tomorrow." She whispers, lips against my neck. I spin in my chair and pull her onto my lap. She settles willingly as I stroke some of her blonde locks from her face.

"Okay darling." I cave. Sleep will continue to elude me, no matter how exhausted my body feels. My mind will still be running at a million miles an hour - the fact is tiring in itself. But I'll try to sleep, for her.

I lift her from the chair and start the walk down the maze of corridors to Meredith's room. Her legs wrap around my body, arms tightening around my neck.

The whole walk I can't stop thinking about the weird alien goo pod things we found and how exactly we can test them on humans without risking a life. That and we're not sure of the effects. I sigh discontently as I push the door to her bedroom open with my hip.

I place her down and start unwrapping her from the blanket. I brush my teeth before allowing myself to slide in beside her. Her body presses into mine - my arm draped over her waist. She turns and reaches for my face in the darkness, her cool hand against my warm forehead.

"Maybe there's no solution. No way of us trying it." She whispers, running her fingertips over my lips. I pull her close to my body, craving her touch. I flatten her hand and kiss the palm.

"Maybe." I mumble against her skin, "but something is telling me there is." She sighs unhappily and starts to turn away. I pull her back, "but that can wait until later, I'm taking a break."

She smiles sadly, fingers entwined with my hair. How did I even sit in that chair drinking coffee for so long when she's right here waiting for me?

"Mer darling, I'm sorry. I'll take a week's break if you want."

"That would be lovely."

"Then I'll contact the science team back at earth and let the others on Prometheus know." I reply, showing her that I mean it. If she wants me to harness the moon I would.

"I can't keep you from your research Y/N. You'd go mad." She whispers miserably. I pull her head into my chest and wrap my arms around her body like a sheild.

"The week. I'm booking it off Mer."

"Thank you."

Science takes time, and effort. Recently it feels like I'm the only one putting in the effort and time to do research that someone else will get the credit for. And in doing so am rejecting Meredith as I go. Well fuck them and fuck science.

"Hey Mer?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you, to the moon and back." I whisper, lifting her chin. Her eyes glisten in the low light of the stars outside. I press as kiss to her lips.

"I love you too Y/N. More than you can imagine."
