"What do you mean, you know?" You asked him. Voice hushed as you peered at him through your messy bangs.
"I've known Sebastian was a demon..." He said gently, understanding you were still trying to process his words.
"How long have you known?" You allowed you gaze to cast down, tracing your fingers over your intricately stitched gloves.
"I knew the day I met him." It hurt your head and your stomach. They burned with uneasiness, an unsettling anger and fear. Claude had known, and he didn't tell you. He never warned you.
"H-How?" You questioned, your voice cracking as you began to speak. Claude remained silent, turning his face away.
"If I told you... You'd never forgive me, nor think of me the same. And, [Y/N], I don't want to loose you." He mumbled the last bit, but you heard it faintly nonetheless.
"Claude, please, how did you know?!" You spoke, your voice quite a bit more demanding. He stepped nearer to you, taking your hand in his gloved one. You could see an uncommon fear in his eyes. He pressed his lips to your knuckles, placing a gentle kiss upon them. Eyes never leaving yours, and you saw something. A flicker, an unexpected ripple of electric pink, crossed over his usual honey colored eyes.
You couldn't stop the gasp that escaped your lips, the sudden realization hit you like an anvil. It sent you stumbling backwards, attempting to break your fall you grabbed the air hoping to find the small folding table behind you, but to no success. Fingers gracing the rim of the round oak, and doing nothing to interrupt your descend. You in that moment could explain it as nothing more than lost, lost like a young child in the woods at night. That's all you could do to explain it, the unresting torrent of unwavering emotions. They kept hitting you, over and over.
Amazement, how could you not have known?!
Anxiety, now what?
Forgiveness, you still loved him...
Fear, was he only ever with you for your soul? Did he even care? Would he kill you now that you knew?
Discombobulation, this had to be a dream, no a nightmare. Right? This wasn't real, was it?
And the unwavering remembrance of your past. You had been taught to avoid demons. Demons were bad, always had been alway will be. They just get in the way of work, that's how you'd been trained. They were the enemy, and somewhere along the way you had learned to fear them. So now, here you had been put. Your lover and 'boss' sorta speak were one of them. And you? You had begged your friend to reduce you to a mere mortal, forgetting how you had no chance at protection. You were alone, alone and afraid.
"[Y/N]! [Y/ N]!" You were still spinning, attempting to find an outlet to escape. Trying to re-find reality, but nothing was found. Claude continued shouting your name, shaking your limp and petrified figure. " [Y/N], please!" You could hear him, and you used it. Like light from a tunnel, you used it as a rope to reality, but not safety.
"Are you alright?!" He asked you frantically, placing his hand on your forehead.
"I'm fine." You said coldly. No emotion rang through your voice, but fear could be seen deep in your eyes.
He took a deep breath before speaking.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I was-"
"Scared? Concerned? Worried? Oh please, Claude, I'm not an idiot. Demons don't have the physical capacity to have emotions."
Silence.
"...But that's the thing. The first time we spoke I felt something, something other than annoyance or anger or hunger or animalistic dominance! I felt something... Like curiosity. I genuinely wanted to know more about you, aside from if you already held a contract. I don't want to loose you, as undemonic as it sounds, it's true!" He told you, a frustration could be heard in his voice. Why wouldn't you listen?! Because you were stubborn. An obnoxious stubborn pest, who would not listen to her lover!
"Claude, I-I love you, but how can I believe that now? You can't keep something so important like that away from me!"
"And, so you don't have huge secrets you want to keep exactly that, a secret?!" Claude argued angrily. Why couldn't you just forgive him?
"Of course I do but-"
"Well, I wanted to keep this private! For your sake."
"And I can't tell you that one for mine!"
"And what could be so important that you can't tell anyone about?! I'm here to protect you, [Y/N]!"
"AND WHO'S GOING TO PROTECT ME FROM YOU?!" You yelled, immediately regretting it. The look of hurt on his face was... Unexpected.
"I suppose you're right..." He spoke turning towards the door.
"N-No... Claude, I-I didn't meant it like that!" You said guiltily.
"THEN HOW DID YOU MEAN IT?" He seethed.
"I'm just... Confused, and I can't tell you my secrets because if I do then I could... I could die." You told him seriously.
"And I'm sorry I can't protect you then." He said, knowing his words would make you crack.
"I-I... I was-"
"[Y/N], The young master requests your presence."
"Of course.... Sebastian." And with that you headed out, the fear still staining your nearly emotionless face.
