"What is it? Tell me," I tell Aria firmly, we had agreed to go out to dinner tonight but she was quiet all evening.
I wasn't going to admit to her that I missed her Stupid would you rather questions and surface-level gossip she liked telling me about. But I did.
I missed her talking and laughing, tonight she had said barely any words.
Aria shakes her head, sipping her wine, "Nothing. Sorry, I'm just tired," She says, smiling.
But her eyes don't light up or crinkle so I know it isn't genuine.
"We will sit in these seats, at this restaurant all night until you tell me."
She sighs and looks down, conflicted, "I just did badly on a test in school, one of my classes that's all."
"What class?" I ask her, watching her every movement.
"English Literature," She replies, looking back up at me.
Bullshit.
Aria was brilliant at English, she'd read the book the test was on about ten times and had chatted my ear off about it. She hadn't failed it, and if she had she'd be crying or ranting about it not quiet.
"When I said tell me I was, in fact, referring to the truth, not a lie," I tell her and she sighs again.
She took another sip of her drink, draining the contents. I eyed her a little nervously. I couldn't help it. I trusted Aria.
She was allowed to drink, and fuck she did. But I was always alert when she drank a little too much.
Call it fucking PTSD.
"The um, ugh the man who was in charge of valet said some gross things to me when you were on the phone with somebody before we walked inside. It's really just not a big deal it just made me regret my dress choice," She tells me, nervously.
Yeah, she knows damn well what's going to happen now.
"Aria that dress costs more than that prick makes in a month, you look beautiful in it. Tell me what he said," I say to her.
Aria smiles a little as she shakes her head, "Ares. I know what your first impulse is, please do not kill that man just because he's gross."
I roll my eyes at her, three months this girl had known me and she actually thought I'd kill him.
She knows me well.
"Aria tell me what he said or I'll shoot him in the head right now," I tell her as I signal to the waitress to get the bill.
"I- He said that he wasn't surprised I was your date tonight because of how I was dressed...."
I'll shoot him.
"Because he said he knew you liked expensive prostitutes," Aria finished, looking up.
Fuck a gun, I'll stab him so I can drag it out.
Deep breath, calm the fuck down.
The waitress placed the bill on the table and Aria grabbed it, my rage momentarily dissipated as I stared at her.
"I'll be paying tonight, you paid all the other times. A relationship is meant to be fifty-fifty," She announces reaching into her purse and I down the rest of my drink.
"A relationship? Is that what we're in?"
Aria laughs and I find myself smiling immediately, "We're engaged, and to be married in three days."
I shrug, "We do have a fifty-fifty relationship. I take you out for expensive dinners and you let me have you for dessert."
"You have such a filthy mouth Ares," Aria snaps, Her cheeks are dusted with pink and I flash her a dazzling smile.
