Kiara

In high school sophomore year, something unexpected happened. It shook the family, so much that it almost took the life of one. It's one of the reasons I never really spoke much of my family or expected anyone to know about them. It was something about my father and his stealthy ways. I didn't know about my family's wealth or how a man who used to be a mere errand boy became rich enough to make a family in one of the biggest estates. I mean, he had what he told everyone but growing up, I realized some of it didn't add up.

It wasn't until I saw a black car pull up in our house one day, that a blonde lady came out with a gun in her hand and made my dad disabled. The action of one woman changed the whole family and to this day, I don't know what happened or why we didn't call the cops or investigate the woman.

Crazy, isn't it? You must think it's even crazier that fate had brought me to this woman again, only that this time she wasn't in all black with her hair up. She was in a bold red dress, a slit running up her thigh, and pencil gold heels. Her blonde hair was down and the big curls rolled down to her waist with her face perfectly covered with makeup and yet again, another bold red covering her lips.

She may have almost murdered my dad but she was very beautiful and I see how she could easily walk up to David and manipulate her bare arms around his. David was still with his back facing me but a lady in red already noticed that someone dressed in a funeral dress was staring at her like a statue.

"Antonio, you didn't tell me you have your wife with you"

Antonio? His name's Antonio? He looks far from a name that nice. And what does she mean wife? She's close enough to be all touchy with him but doesn't know it's just a rumor.

Not that I care anyway.

When Dav_ I mean Antonio as we now know turned to me with his thick eyebrow arched, his eyes traced my above-average frame and signaled for me to come over.

I could've sworn my limbs suddenly malfunctioned or maybe it was the heels but I felt as though I dragged a bag of rice as I walked and I could just feel lady-in-red as her eyes went over my entire body. I swear I'm very confident y'all but this, this is just different, okay?

"Cairo, meet my assistant, Kiara Sky"

I stood right beside Antonio and Cairo, as I now know her to be, stood right in front of me. There was a little distance between me and him while he and Cairo, you would think she was the real wife. Once again, I do not have a problem with it you dirty-minded animal.

I was fighting hard to not look up at him cause I could feel him staring down at me from his tall frame. Might I include Cairo is also tall. I stood there looking like a mushroom even in heels. Shortest in the room.

"And this is Cairo, a business associate"

Ah, I see. Business associates my foot.

"You look familiar, have we met before Kiara?"

I could've started with the exact clothes she was wearing when she pulled up in my house to make my dad disabled, that's how much I distinctly remembered. I guess the only reason I couldn't muster up the feeling to speak is because I wasn't on the right foot with my family and I didn't have the best parents.

Besides, she could have a gun up in her thigh. One word and boom, I have a wheelchair too.

"N_No, I mean, I don't know. No, we haven't"

"It could be the whole internet thing going around, you know? It's hard to believe you're just one of his staff. Last time I checked, Antonio doesn't have his close workers with this much skin"

It was his turn to speak and when I looked up, his dark eyes met mine for a split second before he looked over to Cairo. With a tight fake smile, he said "Mrs Sky just happens to be" He looked back at me one more time "Distinct from the other applicants"

I couldn't agree more.

"I guess I should leave you two_"

"No, I'm just leaving," Cairo said "You wouldn't want to leave your boss alone, would you?"

Her laugh was suspicious and it kept playing in my head even after she left the place. She turned to throw Antonio a wink, one I could interpret in many different ways. I originally came to find David who I now know as Antonio and then I met the woman who almost ruined my family and now I'm here alone with my boss.

What can I say? It's a very average night.

"I didn't bring you here to be with me every single minute" Antonio's deep voice broke my thought, he'd brought himself a little close to me and his strong masculine cologne filled my nostrils. I didn't like the feeling so I took one step back, staring at him like he grew a second head.

"I don't hit women"

"I wasn't insinuating that you would hit me, I just don't like being close to you" A crease formed in between his eyebrows. He almost made it look like my words were babbles. "What? You've never had a woman not want you?"

"This isn't a matter of who or who doesn't want me" His fingers wrapped firmly around my upper arm in the sleekest way possible and he pulled me closer so my shoulder was against his chest. "These walls have ears"

His breath was warm against my ear and I could feel the thumping of his chest through his shirt on the bare skin of my arm. His skin was hard, almost like I hit pure muscles. I could say less about my lazy self who made it to the gym only two days before summer.

"You don't want me around you, noted. Can I leave now?"

"We're leaving the party now"

"Why? You don't like it here?"

"No, I can't say the same for you 'cause you met a woman that almost murdered your dad."

Shocking was an understatement. I'm beginning to think this man knew every single thing about me with the way he made it look. The only reason anyone would know that is if he was there or he was involved. No one knew of that incident, not even the neighbors. We fabricated the best lie that he was robbed and then here's this guy, that wasn't even present there but knows how I feel about it.

At this rate, he would even know when I begin my period, this man had the power to get any kind of information.

"Let me guess, it's okay that you know everything about me but you almost killed Luke 'cause he told me something about you?"

"I didn't plan on killing him"

"He was almost dead"

"If you came in a second later, it would've been a different story."

"Yeah cause he would be dead already"

"Luke's family works for mine, I wouldn't want his life out of him but I value my loyalty and respect"

"Enough to kill a man for it? What could be so important about you that you would kill a man for? And a man like Luke? If you even had half a heart, you would know he's done a lot serving you"

"And I've done a lot adding more zeroes to his bank account"

He had a reply for everything and it all came down to how he wasn't taking any of what I was saying. He didn't see the wrong in what he did and it worried me because he would do it again. Sometimes in the future, when I'm not there to walk in right on time to save Luke's life and maybe it wouldn't be Luke. Maybe it would be some other poor dude who said something normal about him.

What could've made a man so cold?

"You're cruel"

"You're over dramatic"

I yanked my arm out of his grip and took a few steps away from him. He regained his composure quickly like he didn't just stand on killing somebody. "I don't know what's up with you but I hope that one day you will change"

"And I hope that one day, you will understand me"
