Kiara
We arrived at the building late in the evening after the long flight and the troubles of settling in a place I'd never been before. The house was beautiful just as much as it was elegant, something anyone would expect from the owner. There were rooms, many of which I only got to see the door cause David instructed I should be kept in a place far away from him while Luke's was right in the middle of both.
The room had been prepared afore hand and everything was in it even a dress for the party I was supposed to get ready for in an hour. Parties were something I never had many opportunities to attend, owing to the fact the only thing I had access to were the numerous frat parties back in college and I would consider those as social gatherings, if they even deserved to be called those.
This, on the other hand, wasn't just an ordinary party. I would be meeting quite an amount of rich people and I could just feel already that I would be the odd one in the room. It wouldn't have been much of a problem if it wasn't that I was allegedly in a relationship with David who couldn't even tolerate being in the same plane as me.
The style of the dress was beautiful but black for color. Call me Barbie but I would've preferred it in pink or at least gold. It's a party, not a funeral.
I left the room a few minutes past seven. There wasn't a specific reason but when I stepped out I realized I needed a real tour of the whole place. I wouldn't be able to cover much because I had to be ready by eight but at least I would have my head cleared a bit.
I stopped in front of Luke's room and for the fun of it, knocked on it a few times. There wasn't a response from the other side and he couldn't have fallen asleep so fast so I called his name and tried looking through the keyhole. Nothing, there was no one in the room.
I realized he would probably be helping David get prepared so I unknowingly, air quote, walked to David's room. It wasn't me, it was my legs and my lack of shame.
When I was close to the elegant double doors of David's room, I heard a sound. Like a thump, not too loud but enough for my ear to pick up. It almost made me walk away but I was too curious to not find out the reason for the sound. When I was close to the door, I noticed it was slightly open so I went a little closer to get a sneak peek. Don't point fingers, you would've done it too.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the sight of it. David holding Luke by the neck in a death grip, knuckles getting white from the strong grip and the latter's face looking like it was about to pop. This is murder playing out right here and everyone's interested in the fact he's got a coffee girl to wife?
"It was a strict warning. Don't say a fucking word, what part did you not understand?"
I didn't know what to do, I remained glued to my feet while the whole thing played out. I was just about to be a witness to a crime and I couldn't move an inch out of shock.
I thought of this man to be anything but a murderer. With all that money, a murderer?
When Luke's eyes met mine, it almost looked as if it found grace and with hands tight around his neck and only little he could speak he managed to call out my name but it didn't look like he wanted to be saved. He did it so the killer would notice and it worked cause once David's eyes met mine, his grip loosened and Luke was free.
I watched him fall to the ground, hands around the neck that would get a bad bruise. And with all of that, he remained there when he had a split second to yell'I quit' and run away. Why is it that people aren't like me?
David slammed the door shut and that was my cue to move. It wasn't because I wanted to be involved so bad, I just had Luke in mind and the need to save him. I was walking into the lion's den with a yellow robe on and duck slippers.
I pushed the door open and walked in. There was fear creeping behind my neck but it was too late to back out, I was already in and the door was shut behind me. Now on the crime scene, I had nothing to do to help the situation cause he could bundle me up and throw me out the window.
"Leave," He said to Luke and the young man scurried away like a scared cat. I, on the other hand still stood there while the opportunity to leave passed me by.
"Are you going to kill me too?"
David took one long stride and he was in front of me. Muscles bulged through his white shirt and air rushed in and out of his nostrils, he looked like a mountain before me. His shadow covered my figure and it was then I realized I messed up. I messed up badly.
"You're supposed to be in your room, the only place in my house you have access to"
"And you're supposed to be getting ready to meet your snobby friends, not murdering your staff"
"He didn't die, did he?"
"Duh, thanks to me cause I walked in"
"You can never keep your mouth shut Kiara and I'm this close to locking you in your room and attending this party alone"
I gasped, hand meeting my chest to make it a little more dramatic "My goodness, I am so shocked cause I care about you and your snobby friends and planned for all of this to happen"
"I don't want you disgracing me_"
"Else what? You'll kill me too?" That slipped out even before I comprehended the words and then I just stood there, wishing to crawl beneath the carpet.
The next thing that happened happened in a swift second, his hand came up to my neck. Before then, I was trailing his entire action, it's funny I didn't even realize it until I could feel the rough surface of his thumb against the skin of my neck. Not knowing what would happen next and not desiring to know, I let out a scream and jumped. Then my most went straight to the ground and my hands shot up to my neck where I felt him touch.
I didn't feel any pain but the feeling of him touching me left this tingling sensation, I couldn't describe it.
I crawled up close to the door like a cat as I gasped for air. I may have been a little dramatic but I just saw him almost draw the life out of someone, it's not my fault.
"There was ketchup on your neck"
"Oh"
"Can you be any more dramatic?"
"Don't go pointing any fingers, we're still on the topic of why you almost murdered my friend" I said, standing up and regaining my composure. Suddenly, I wasn't gasping for air anymore but I still had the tingling sensation.
"Your friend? A man you met hours ago?"
"Yes, you have issues making friends? It's obvious"
"Let me make something clear to you, you're only here because of the stories flying around. I would never hire a woman like you or have you close to my house or any of my properties. Once all of this is over, you will be back to your life as an ordinary coffee girl like none of this ever happened"
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because you have no reason to ask about me or my family from Luke"
"Is that why you almost killed him? And the reason why you say these hurtful words to me? Well, guess what? I will unravel everything about your family, I'll know every single thing about you even your next move. I may spend only a few days with you but I'll leave such a mark, you will never forget. So go ahead and kill everyone, it won't stop me"
