Kiara Sky
I know this isn't my business in the smallest bit but hear me out.
If I go around the house in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep, I might just be able to get more information about these people. Just like I saw two weeks ago, that's a piece of a puzzle waiting to be unlocked. What I found most intriguing about this is how he lived his life all these years and no one knows about this. When I say no one, I talk of the public. David Russel, business tycoon, most eligible bachelor, perfect gentleman. Those were all lies and I wonder how I was the one, out of thousands of other people, to figure this out.
Let's rephrase that, I wonder how I happen to be the one in all of this mess.
I couldn't even get out and I didn't have a family that cared or friends to worry about me. The closest I had to a friend was my boss, a frail old woman who cared for nothing else than making a few bucks. My sister would've done something if she wasn't a little high school girl that our parents denied access behind the wheels or a phone that didn't belong to them.
So where were we? Oh yes, snooping around.
Finally, I made it to the front of Antonio's room. Crazy how that was the only place that came to my mind but then again, would a man so careful about anything keep important stuff just lying around anywhere?
Is it a risky move? Yes. Does he have a gun? Only one that can blow my brains out. Can he kill me? Certainly. Does he have anger issues? Unfortunately. Am I still doing it? Definitely.
I twisted the knob of his door, almost biting on my tongue when I heard it creak a little. I pushed on the heavy doors as it reminded me of the day I tried to save Luke. Good old days.
When I got inside, I closed the door gently behind me, and on the bed, I saw Antonio sleeping peacefully. No one would know this same man had hands enough to squeeze the life out of you. I fought the urge to walk away but the way he looked with the moonlight shining right unto his bed, it's the most angelic thing ever.
How ironic?
Just to satisfy the urge, I took a few steps closer to his bed with my naked feet hitting the tiled floor as quietly as they could. When I stood in front of him, I got the perfect view of it. His skin looked so pale like the life was drawn out of it, with dark grey circles under his eyes, stubs on his jawline, and hair falling across the forehead. He looked tired even in his sleep and he had a slight furrow to his eyebrows, like he was having a bad dream. I wonder what could make him look this exhausted at night and in the morning, he looked like the healthiest person on the planet. Poor Antonio, I won_
No, we do not care so we're moving on.
When I turned to leave, I felt a firm grip on my wrist and a pull in the opposite direction. Without thinking, I lost composure and down I went to the edge of the bed.
Guess who just got busted?
"Did you think you could sneak into my room and I wouldn't hear a thing?" His voice was just as deep as it was scary and the fact it was coming from behind me sent chills down my spine.
"That was the plan"
"Just two weeks in my house and you're suddenly not scared of me anymore? Tell me Kiara, what changed?"
"My curiosity"
"Do you realize I can do anything to you right now and no one would hear about it? Not even your best friend Luke"
Great, now we're back to square one cause I could feel my heart in my throat and my breaths were beginning to get all raggedy "I'm sorry?"
He let go of the iron grip around my wrist and I was about to burst out of the room but then I thought again, how far could my chubby legs take me? The most I'd reach is the door before he catches up.
"Let me see you"
Like he didn't see me every day when he made me enter another car and drive in his to the dumb building we've been going to every three days a week. Then I'd wait in that boring room again for hours before he'd come get me and back home again. And the days we didn't go there, he had his normal duties with his business and stuff. Like a crazy time loop.
"I'm not going to kill you"
When I turned to look at him, he sat up with the blanket wrapped around him and his back facing the moonlight. I couldn't see every part of his face but he had the perfect view of mind and it was difficult to see his expressions while I was an open book.
"I was just curious, I needed to know about you. It's been a while you know and I'm tired of the whole thing"
"Yes and this is a lot worse than a beat-up house in the crooks of the street and working for an old lady that wouldn't mind giving you up for two cents"
"How do you know all of this?"
"I guess our curiosity is mutual. Except that I have the resources to do so and the most you can do is sneak into my room by two in the morning"
"Desperate times call for desperate decisions"
"And desperate decisions call for desperate consequences"
"You said you wouldn't kill me"
"It seems all you think I ever do is kill," He said before this awkward silence fell between us. I couldn't possibly beg to avoid these consequences and it didn't look like he'd wrapped his head around what he was going to do precisely. Or maybe he was still dwelling on his last statement. To which I would respond, yes.
I may not think all he ever does entirely is to kill but there was just this thing since that night. Almost like the image was imprinted in my mind. He sitting there having the worst look on his face and the woman in front of him smiling like she wasn't about to die. That would take a lot to erase from my mind, nothing could stop me from thinking about it.
"You almost killed Cairo"
"What, you've never seen a man angry before?"
"Angry? And someone dies for it"
"It was either one man or both you and I and every other person in that car but that's not what talking about"
"Yes, I snuck into your room and now I'm suddenly the bad guy, shoot me" Those words spilled out without me even thinking and when the realization struck, my eyes went wide "I mean no, don't shoot me. That was just a stupid joke"
I heard a deep chuckle escape from him and that made it the first time I ever heard him laugh. Something about seeing the same man who looked so exhausted now laughing, I don't know, it's kind of relieving.
It's just my kind part, I can be very nice too.
"Let me interest you in a deal Kiara Sky"
"What? You need me to hide a body for you?" I paused "Just kidding"
"If you agree, I'll let go of the punishment. I'll also provide the best lawyers to help you win full custody over your sister. Right after I'll get the finest house in the estate, ten million dollars cash, and twenty percent of my properties in your name"
This better be a dream.
Years I've waited to be guardian over my sister, to get her out of that muck of a family. I went to college for it, I juggled two side jobs with my education and it explains why I graduated with such grades but the point is, I did everything for what he was dangling right in front of me. And ten million? I would pay off my sister's high school fees and get her into the best college. All of these and I still have twenty percent of his properties, that's like more millions.
Hold up, why would he give so much to a girl like me?
"What's the deal?"
"Marry me"
"Ew"
