I roamed around work, dazed and not completely in my right mind.
"You remember that girl that just got here? The dark skin? You came around the time she did right?" I snapped my head up, confused why this guy was talking to me now.
Since I got here, I made it a point to be cool with everyone. But our own CEO ruined that for me.
I had no clue why he hated me. But he did, and the one time I went to his office, he spoke to me so coldly. If looks could kill, that man was a murderer.
"What?" I replied, confused on what Milan had to do with me. When I did go visit him, he made me say sorry to her, like he had no clue what was going on between us, that was why I was pretty sure they were banging, guess not, though.
"I heard she took leave without telling our CEO, and he just let it happen. I also heard they were dating, and she got in through that, basically...." The guy in front of me spluttered, snapping his finger, "nepotism." He said in Korean. "Knee-po-tesm." He tried his hardest to sound it out, before giving up. "He also sent someone to her house to find her, but her roommates say that they haven't seen her. Do you think she's dead?" It finally struck me, the thought of losing Milan was more than I could handle, she was a part of my life that I would always regret, because she treated me right.
I fucked that up.
I brushed my hair back, swallowing deeply. The thought of our CEO having relations with her made me sick to my stomach.
I was going to her apartment this evening.
Work continued and nobody else spoke to me, apart from the side-eyes and glances I was getting. I needed to go back to America, nothing good was here but Milan, and the thought of her being gone was enough to scare me away.
I picked up my bag, taking my business card and sliding it through as I left. I kept my head down, making my way to the bus. I was saving up for a car, I risked everything for this job, thinking I would have assistant pay. It was late once I got to her apartment, I started to wonder if this was the right thing.
I got ready to knock, but the door flung open, a tear-stained face greeted me. I think his name was Elijah. He looked like he had just seen someone dear to him die.
Milan? Is she dead?
The words got caught in my chest, he gave me a look.
"I don't know where she is. She packed all of her shit, didn't even leave a note. The only things left are her sheets and other decorations." He looked away, trying to clean his face off. I reached for him, grabbing his hand.
"I'm worried too." He looked at me then looked away, snatching his hand away.
"What do you want? Why are you here?" He spoke in-between sobs, I looked past him for the other friend. "Her bitch-ass is probably the reason she's gone." His face turned grim, showing obvious discomfort.
"What happened?"
He then explained how, Bree, the girl I was looking for, liked the CEO, she believed she was the one for him, and thought that Milan was cock-blocking. Bree had something on the CEO and gaslit him into a date. He assumed that Bree maybe told Milan, which made her want to leave, but I knew Milan was stronger than that. She had to deal with me for ages, I'm sure she could deal with her friend. She was always the one saying "hoes before bros". I smirked at the thought. Bree was with her since I was with her, to think she would let a man get in the way...
