Sams point of view

We had just finished training, wiping the sweat from my forehead, the girls all walking and talking their way back to the locker room.

Coach waltzes out of his office, phone in hand while he rubs his forehead, walking straight past us.

" When is he not stressed?" Hayley earns a laugh from the girls.

She's not wrong though, unless we've just won a game, or had a few to drink, you won't really catch him relaxed.

Changing out of my sweaty uniform, I stand under the shower stream for less than a minute.
Cigarettes by Tash Sultana takes over the speaker.

I dry myself off before changing into my usual black t-shirt, black pants combination.
Pulling on my white socks, lacing up my white shoes.

" Oi there's a new player" Mackenzie comes running, stood still in the doorway.

Our heads all turn in her direction, patiently waiting for more information.

" She's just gone into Coaches office, short brunette!".

" Is she hot?" Caitlin asks.

The girls laugh at the desperation in her voice, to be fair she'd just been through her first wlw break up and has been on the prowl ever since.

Mackenzie nods, a smirk growing across her face.
" Like, Kristen Stewart hot, she played for the Lionesses".

Swallowing the dry lump in my throat, I clear it before speaking.

" Mid season though. Isn't that a bit odd?".

Before anyone can say anything else, Coach stands behind Mackenzie.

His arms crossed over his chest,
she steps aside letting him walk through,
the new girl following.

Mackenzie wasn't wrong.
She's really attractive, her legs make up more than half of her body, they're sculpted so well.

There's a few random bruises on her arm which would raise concern if she weren't a footballer.
Her curls sit just below her breasts and I try not to stare but they're rather perky.

Shooting my eyes to the floor, I mentally bash myself for staring so long, just praying she didn't notice.

" Girls, I'd like you to meet Hazel. She's just been signed for the rest of the season, playing midfield" Coach says.

A few of the girls give her a warm welcome, glancing up at her, she begins to fidget with her gold rings.

" I know it's probably really weird that I'm here in the middle of camp but I've always admired your team and I'm really grateful to be here".

It's unfair to be that attractive and have an English accent, not only an English accent but a London one.

You can't help but want to protect her,
her hands haven't stopped shaking, nore has she stopped fidgeting.
She seems a timid little thing.

" Well we're all really happy to have you here" Alanna says, the rest of the girls agreeing.

She gently smiles, dropping her hands by her side.

" Sam, I have trust in you as the captain, you'll help her get settled in?" Coach asks.

shit.
I just nod, glancing at her, almost startled to meet her eyes already on mine.
She presses her lips together in a flat line before returning her attention to Coach.

After everyone had taken their time to say hi and introduce themselves on their way out, Coach pats my shoulder also making his way out,
leaving the two of us in the locker room.

" Uhm, I'm Sam" Sticking my hand out.

" Yeah, I know who you are Sam Kerr" Gently, she shakes it.

Something about my name rolling off her tongue has me weak.
It could be the accent, actually, I'm hoping it's just the accent.

I'm in no position whatsoever to be frothing over some English girl that I know nothing about.
For all I know she's got a husband and kids.
I hope not though.

" Do you have any questions? Need help with anything?".

She shakes her head, "I don't think so, Coach was pretty good explaining it all".

Kind of wish she'd said yes.

" But could I maybe grab your number? Just in case anything comes up?".

I nod, taking her phone from her and typing it into the new contact before handing it back to her, our fingers brushing against each other's.

I awkwardly shuffle from one foot to the other before clearing my throat.

" Well, I best be going, gotta catch the last bus but, I'll see you at Wednesday's training".

She nods, gently smiling, "See you then".

I couldn't have gotten out of there any quicker.
