I left Mackenzies around 4, stopped by mine to change, and made it to Hazels around 6.
Alanna and her had a lot to say about Taylor and I ending things, including the fact that they could apparently see it coming from the start.
Nice of them to tell me that now.Anyway, i'm at the front door.
Black t shirt, black pants and my nikes with white socks on.
Knocking softly, my heart thuds out my chest. She opens the door, and it's just like the first time I saw her.
She stands there looking all put together, a side smile between her rosy cheeks." Hi Sam".
" Hi" I almost giggle.
Feeling like a fourth grader with a crush, I follow her through the door.
My phone vibrates in my back pocket before I can sit down, sliding it out, Mackenzie's name pops up Across the screen.
" Shit, sorry. It's Mack, I'll just be a minute?".
" Course, yeah" She nods.
Pressing the answer button, I walk into the kitchen.
" Hey?".
" Hey Sammy, my boots are at yours after our game the other day. Can Alanna and I swing around and pick them up?".
Her tone suggests she knows exactly where I am, that I'm not home.My eyes roll, letting out a subtle sigh.
" I'm not home, but you can grab the key under the mat".
She's silent for a second, background whispers from Alanna.
" Cool, yeah thanks".
" Where are you then?" She asks.Alanna's quiet chuckles have me banging my head against the cupboard.
Why are they like this?" I'm at Hazels. But you already knew that, didn't you?".
They both burst into a fit of laughter, they're either knee slapping, or slapping each other.
" Okay, so funny. Anyway, I've got to go, see you later".
Mackenzie manages to pull herself together,
catching her breath, "Bye Sammy, love you"." Love ya".
Hanging up, I turn back to face Hazel.
She sits on the sofa, glancing up to meet my gaze." Those two are going to be the death of me" I say.
She laughs, crossing one leg over the other.
Her toned legs catch my eyes, and I let them linger for a few seconds." I just wanted to tell you, that when I left" She says.
" Tony suggested I come here. He set me up with Arsenal and all".Staring at her, My jew clenches.
And it clicks, that's what they were talking about in the locker room that afternoon." What did he say to you?" I ask.
" It doesn't matter, just stuff about your publicity - it was all true though".
Her dropped shoulders have my knees wanting to buckle.
All this time I'd been running over that day, that week. If I could've done anything to stop her from leaving. But it wasn't even that after all.
" Everything was fine in the end, I knew it would be. We should learn not to listen to him".
I attempt to laugh, but I really just end up clearing my throat.
Walking over to the sofa, I sit down a few feet away from her. There's a moment of silence, swallowing the recurring dryness in my throat.
