her point of view
Walking up the long flight of stairs, I finally get to the seventh floor, almost out of breath.
The music echoes down the hallway.Staring back at my reflection in the mirror near the elevators.
I'm wearing a short, silk black dress with my doc martens, dusting off a piece of white fluff before knocking on the front door.Mackenzie swings it open, her face lighting up when she sees me.
I hand her the bottle of red before letting her pull me in for a hug." So glad you're here, come in!".
She steps aside, letting me walk through.
Taylor swifts playing on the speaker, laughter and gossip coming from the kitchen. It's a large apartment for Sydney, the deck stretching around the sides.
Following her through to the kitchen, the girls all flashing me a grin around the bench and table, some new faces I'd never seen before.
Mackenzie hands me a glass of wine, turning to face her, my attention grabbed in the living room.
Sam sits there on the sofa, next to Alanna and her partner,
Her eyes already on me, as her lips tug to a side smile before she gives me a little wave.
I wave back, contemplating wether or not to walk to her." Gosh, don't you look like nice?" An unfamiliar voice says behind me.
Turning to face her, she stands there with a can of beer in her hand.
She's got dark long hair, a few tattoos up her arms." Oh, thank you" I smile.
" I'm Lucy, Kyra's mate. You must be Hazel, the new player huh?".
I nod, taking a few sips from my glass.
" How do you know Kyra?" I ask.
" Oh we met ages ago in High school. I love your accent by the way".
My cheeks grow warm, wishing I could blame it on the wine but the way she's playing with her hair would suggest otherwise.
" Thank you, I prefer the Australian accent personally".
She smirks, rubbing the back of her neck.
Before I can say anything else, her phone rings in her back pocket, sliding it out, she groans.
" I'll come find you later!".
Smiling at her before she slips away, my attention turning back to the wine in my hand.
I wonder if Sam told anyone about the kiss?
Glancing into the living room, Alanna and her partner deep in conversation while Sam sits there, picking at the skin around her nails.
She then readjusts herself in her seat, crossing her arms over her chest before looking up to meet my gaze.
My eyes dart away, before glancing back, her eyes still stuck on me.
" Hazel, how was your day? Whatcha get up to?" Hayley stands in my view.
A half drank margarita in her hand as she plays with the small umbrella in it.
" Oh, I just went for a long run and then saw my physio. You?".
She laughs, " God you're active. I think I slept until one and now I'm here".
I laugh with her, staring down at the deep red wine in my glass.
She returns to the table with the rest of the girls.Feeling a warm presence behind me, I swallow the dryness in my throat.
