“Well, go ahead and say it…” I trailed off as soon as Megan shifted her eyes to me from her compact mirror, applying a coat of mascara. She stopped to look at me, her brown eyes holding pure confusion.
“Tell you what, exactly?” She suddenly asked.
“Go ahead and rub it in my face. The fact that you were right about Matt being a scumbag, about him secretly hooking up with Claire and all of that ‘malarkey’.” I fumbled with my fingers at this, slightly angry with myself for being so naïve, and not listening to my best friend when she’s been warning me about this for the longest time, and all I’ve did was completely ignored her. I was too in love, or at least…that’s what I thought I was.
It was finally Monday, and it was the beginning of school. I haven’t seen Matt so far, so that’s good. I haven’t even saw Claire either. Megan suddenly smiled at me and threw her mirror in her Chanel handbag, “Cecilia, you’ve been going through so much. The least you would want me to do is rub me being right in your face, right?”
I stared at her, a small grin tugging on the ends of my lips.
“Unless, you’d want for me to?” Her perfectly arched eyebrow was raised at this, and I quickly shook my head from side to side, rejecting her teasing offer. She started chuckling, “Okay then.”
The bell had finally started flooding in our ears, and we winced for a second. “See you later!” She shouted over the sound, walking into a huge ocean of other students, trying to get to their designated areas as well.
I walked off too, headed to my own class, math. But I decided to stop by the bathroom and get a drink of water too, since my mouth was so dry this morning.
By the time I got out of the bathroom, I was already late, and the hallways were clear. I strolled to a nearby water fountain to get a drink, and as soon as I lifted my head and wiped my mouth, I noticed a shadow by the corner of a wall nearby.
I squinted my eyes, curious. I’ve been seeing a few shadows lately. When I was at Matt’s house that night, on my way home where I first met Cam and now…this. It was so strange and peculiar to me. The shadow stood there, as if it were waiting for me to come near it.
As I stared at the shadow that had seemed to linger there for hours, I couldn’t help but to feel a sudden wave of thought circulating in my brain, and I felt my eyes grow broad. Just before I could think for myself, I started walking to the shadow, seeming to be helplessly drawn to it.
I continued approaching it, and approaching it, and I got even closer…until a figure stood in front of me. Arms crossed, thin body line, beautiful face structure, it was none other than Meredith. And even if her face was scrunched up and her lips were pressed like a prim line, she still looked so beautiful.
“Are you supposed to be out here?” She snapped.
I quickly shook my head, jerking myself back to reality. I felt on my head, growing a sudden massive headache. “What just happened?” I hissed out, confused. What happened to me? Was I…somehow hypnotized by something or someone?
Meredith’s eyes grew broad and she looked behind her shoulder, and so did I. The shadow was still there. “You have to get to class.” She rushed, spinning me around and shoving me further down into the hallways.
“But…but why?”
“You just do, now go.” She looked towards the corner of where the shadow was, and it seemed like it had now disappeared. She breathed out a frustrated sigh, but was it because I was refusing to follow her orders? What was going on?
“I’m sorry, but are you a hall monitor or something? How come you’re always telling me to get to class?” I questioned.
“Look Cecilia, just GO.” She demanded.
