Abi kept her head on the taller girl's shoulder, both resting. There was a small silence, both still troubled by the events from a couple minutes ago. Emma parted her lips, speaking impulsively. She could've almost died, there. She had to get this off of her chest.
''Hey.. Abi? Do you ever think we'll be more than best friends?''
PATH CHOSEN.
A moment or two passed, in silence. Abi sat up, looking at her. She had an unreadable expression on her face, looking like a deer in headlights.
''You mean like.. best best friends?''
''Girlfriends.''
Abi paused, parting her lips yet not uttering a word.
''I.. Are you being serious right now?''
''I'm being serious.''
Emma tilted her head, biting her lip as she began regretting her words. She felt an empty feeling in her gut she'd always get during oral presentations, or when it was her turn to order at a restaurant. She was a confident girl, so why was her reply affecting her so much?
''I've.. thought about that. More than a few times, actually.''
Abi smiled a little, resting her head back on Emma's shoulder.
''Me too. I could be your muse for your art, you know?''
Abi chuckled, leaning closer towards Emma, if it was even possible. She thought for a few seconds, having lots on her mind yet nothing to tell.
''It's just.. you know, Nick and Jacob.''
''Me and Jacob aren't permanent.''
Emma rushed to say, before pausing.
''You know.. we're just a summer fling. But, you and Nick, you two got something going on.''
''Eh, I don't really know. He was kind of a dick when we met, but he's softened up overtime.. but you've been here with me every step of the way.''
''Of course I have! You're, like, my favorite person here.''
''Even with Jacob?''
''..Even with Jacob. What importance does Jacob have if you're here with me?''
''Likewise, Em.''
They both smiled, forgetting all about their other situation.
''Maybe.. we could keep in touch, you know? I don't really like long distance, but..''
