CHAPTER NINE

GOOSEBUMPS MONSTERS WERE once again roaming Madison. Maybe the news would put that off as a series of storms and hallucinations too. The locks were open, and the monsters were taking full advantage of that. "Oh my God, that is so many abominable snowmen", Genesis scowled, her nose crinkled in disgust as she watched the white, furry creatures wreck a convenience store. They ransacked the shelves for candy and snacks. Two of them were drinking straight from the slush machine.

"Oh, that is just nasty", Spencer gagged.

"Remind me to never come to Kirby's gain", Cely stated, as if she was completely blown away by the creature but completely disgusted all the same.

"There you kids are!", Zach shouted, his shoulders dropping in relief. "We were worried sick about you!"

"How could you just leave without telling us?", Hannah shouted in concern. "We were supposed to figure this out together!"

"Well, no one was telling us anything!", Becca protested.

"Because you're children!", Hannah and Zach exclaimed in sync.

"How about this", R.L. said grumpily, "everyone shut up and get home now!" A little startled, everyone quickly moved to comply.

Once everyone was seated somewhere in the Stine house, R.L. began taking again. "Right, here's what we know. I was a weird little loner kid, I had no friends so I created my own, the monsters, blah blah blah", he rambled. "I wanted them to terrorize the kids who terrorized me, to me these monsters were real, then they came to life because of, like, a magic type writer and my will or something I don't know", he continued, waving a dismissive hand. "The original manuscripts stay locked, the monsters stay inside. Unlocked, monsters get out. Slappy failed at creating his own story. He's smart, but he can't outsmart teenagers apparently. That's his flaw. He's clever, but he lacks creativity", R.L. continued. "So, he's returning to his old playbook - releasing other monsters to distract us."
