TWO YEARS BEFORE THE MOMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Wooyoung was watching San sleep, his figure kissed by the moon. His dark hair fell over his eyes. In two months he would be graduating from high school, Wooyoung couldn't quite believe it. He was already eighteen years old. How good life was.
Suddenly, San opened one eye. "Wooyoung, are you asleep?" he whispered.
"No."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Have you ever... how should I say it... have you... ever h-had sex?"
Wooyoung raised himself up on one elbow, stunned by the question.
"Why are you asking something like this?"
"B-Because...I was wondering what it's like..."
Wooyoung could not tell him what it was like for a human being. He had never done it when he was still human. If he did it, it usually preceded the tearing out of the throat of his prey, so he didn't think his were very useful experiences for San.
"You're too young to think about such things, don't you think?"
"No! I'm already eighteen years old! Everyone in class teases me because I haven't done it yet."
Wooyoung raised an eyebrow; kids these days were truly indescribable. "I don't see how it could be any of their business whether you do it or not."
San was furiously blushing and Wooyoung could see it even without turning on the light. Wooyoung had a bad feeling.
"There's more, isn't it?"
San nodded. "A boy asked me to the prom. I told him yes. Do you think he'll want to... I mean... I've been told that after the prom everyone goes to... well..."
"I don't know if he'll want to do it, but I certainly know you shouldn't accept, anyway."
"Why?"
"Because you're not ready. You can't even say it out loud. How do you think you can bare yourself in every possible way to someone you don't even know?"
"B-But I do know him..."
"Who is he?" Wooyoung did not like the turn the conversation was taking. It may be that when he had been young, things were very different, but the thought of some random guy taking San in his shitty car to get laid made his skin crawl.
"Lee Juyeon...do you remember him?"
"...Am I wrong, or is he one of the guys who have been picking on you all these years?"
"W-Well, I wouldn't put it that way, but he's one of that group, yes..."
Wooyoung turned on the light. San immediately covered his face with his arms, embarrassed.
"San, are you serious? You can't go to the prom with him. In fact, you can't go anywhere with him at all. You definitely can't sleep with him. I forbid it."
San removed his arms from his face, suddenly angry. "Who are you, my father?"
"Since when do you talk to me like that? Are you experiencing now some kind of teenage rebellion, or whatever the hell it's called?"
San did not answer. Wooyoung put a hand on his hair, stroking it gently.
"San, I know I'm not your father and I can't forbid you to do anything, but I really think you shouldn't do it. Don't you think you should trust me? I know you better than anyone else."
