The next day, Jewel took it easier on her during training. They'd gone to the surface to practice channeling, and Jewel had led her on a 20-km run at 200 kilometers/h. Then they practiced light leaping and levitating.
"I did what you told me too do last night," Ana said, panting. She sprawled on the prickly grass beside Jewel after they'd finished skill lessons.
Jewel nodded; her eyes focused on the horizon. "Thank you," she whispered. Then she straightened.
"Alvar should be here any minute. Let's get back inside." Jewel started to stand.
"Actually, we're going to do our lesson outside today," Alvar's smooth voice came from by the Rock.
Ana jumped, dusting the grass of her back. "Didn't see you there." Alvar and Jewel didn't seem to find the joke funny.
"I'll be going. Ana, meet me in my office later." Jewel hurried off.
"Wonderful," Alvar said sarcastically. He then had Ana run through hours of vanishing exercises.
By the end of it, Ana was exhausted. But Alvar still made her practice telekinesis, levitating him down to the dormitories. Ana went to the med rooms, finding Jewel's office that had a fancy plaque lined with diamonds that said:
Dr. Jewel R.
Head and only physician of the NEVERSEEN
Have a sparkly day!
Ana entered without knocking, quietly closing the door behind her as she went to see what Jewel was up too. The space wasn't small, but it wasn't huge, either. Jewel had explained to her that the elves did something called Alchemy to make elixirs and medicines. Or, as Ana called them, 'elfy potions'.
On the wall to Ana's right, a big digital clock read the time, date, and year. Today it said June 10th, 2023, 12:30 AM. Below it was Jewel's desk with piles of paperwork and journals on it. On the other side of the room, Jewel had donned scientific goggles over her Neverseen cloak's hood and was carefully measuring different vibrant coloured liquids into a vial.
"BOO!" Ana shouted. The potion exploded in Jewel's face, singing the strawberry-blonde hair leaking out of her hood.
"Algorithm!" Jewel shouted, tucking her hair back under her hood and taking off her goggles.
"Looks yucky." Ana commented, peeking at the potion, which was a chunky dark orange.
"Well, Glimmer's going to have to take this. I don't have any more time to make more Marrow Regenerator, so I'll tell her to blame you and get her some Prattles. Come on." Jewel led Ana into a room where a slim figure lay in a hospital bed with their hood pulled low.
"Glimmer, here's some marrow regenerator for that finger. Keep it in the splint for a couple days and come see me every day for more elixirs." Jewel instructed, handing Glimmer the small, glass vial.
"Alright, thank you, Jewel." Glimmer took the elixir and left.
"Algorithm, you really have to stop doing that," Jewel complained. "If you'd done that yesterday, we would've died, because I was working with alkahest."
Ana knew of the deadly Elvin substance that needed to be stored in a bubble of itself. She'd almost touched it when she found in Jewel's storage cabinet.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! It's just so funny!" Ana pointed to Jewel's burned sleeves.
Jewel rolled her eyes. "Alright, Algorithm. "We officially have five more days until the attack", she said, putting her serious face back on. "You've got to be ready."
"Ugh," Ana groaned.
For the next five days, Ana and Jolie practiced controlling her telepathy and phasing. The two Neverseen agents also planned the attack out. They even went to Loamnore a few times to scout the territory. They practiced until Ana memorized it. And then again, and again.
