part 19 —- reminds me of you
Hana stood at the dining table, wiping over it with a clean cloth. They had all finished lunch together, and now as Mikoto and her mother did the dishes, Hana took it upon herself to help clean up as well. She needed another distraction and she found that sometimes cleaning did exactly that. She listened to the chitter chatter coming from the kitchen sink, as Mikoto let out a laugh at something Sora had said, bumping against her with her hip. Hana couldn't help but smile. She adored their friendship. Whenever they were together, they would suddenly act like teenagers. Hana wished she could have a friendship similar to theirs someday.
She shook her head slightly and leaned over to soak up a small puddle of water Haru had made with his cup. As she did so, she felt a familiar, yet comforting, presence beside her. She ignored him for a little while longer, too occupied with cleaning every last bit of Haru's mess.
Sasuke cleared his throat, finally grabbing her attention. She looked up at him but kept wiping.
"Hey," he started, sounding slightly awkward.
"What's up?" she asked, looking down at the table again.
"I was just thinking," he dug his hands into his pockets, "since we're all heading back home soon, and I ruined your experience at the carnival," he paused, shifting uncomfortably. "That... that maybe I can make it up to you and take you tonight instead?"
Hana's eyes widened and she felt a hot flush attend to her cheeks. Why was sex less awkward between them than this conversation?
"Uh," she noticed Sasuke's body tense as soon as the sound left her lips.
"My mom is making me," he corrected, his gaze immediately darkening as it usually did. He suddenly looked annoyed, and Hana almost began to believe that it truly was Mikoto who was instigating this. Is that why they're giggling so much over there?
"Sure," she finally said, flashing him a warm smile. "When were you thinking?"
"Before dinner, so we can eat something there instead." he said, his face and tone of voice both softening ever so slightly.
Hana couldn't help but keep the smile on her face. He looks adorable when he's like this.
"Sounds good,"
"Cool,"
Awkward silence fell between the two of them again, and finally, Sasuke walked away, hands still in his pockets. Hana scoffed under her breath in amusement and returned to her cleaning duties. As she did so, she felt two pairs of eyes boring into her back. She glanced over her shoulder, just in time to see Mikoto and her mother look away in an instant, hunching over the sink and snickering between each other.
"Don't you think it's wrong to allow them to share a room together? Shouldn't we say something?" Sora worried, speaking under her breath as she rinsed a plate off in the hot water.
