Beep-Beep Beep-Beep
Kass's phone alarm went off. She internally groaned. The only things pulling her out of her bed were the wages she was getting, and Juliet.
One car drive later, Kass was slamming the car door shut and entering the building. That day she was wearing a grey pantsuit. It fit her like a glove. Kass enjoyed wearing formal clothes, especially because her parents always mocked her for it.
She was consistently early every day, arriving at work before the recommended time of 7 a.m. Checking her phone, the time was 6:02 a.m. She powered on her computer and went to the kitchen to make herself a coffee.
She walked straight to the coffee machine, put in a mug, and set it to work. It was quiet in the office, she could hear muffled traffic and bird songs, and someone else behind her...
''You didn't reply to my texts on Saturday night.'' Jason leaned against the doorway of the staff kitchen.
''Mother fucker- '' Kass jumped and dropped her mug in extreme alarm.
Of course, Jason was hiding out and waiting to scare her.
''When did you get here?'' Kass inquired.
''Such strong language Ms. Grant,'' he remarked, a grin spreading from one side of his face to the other. His eyes were shone when he grinned. '' I saw you driving in from my office upstairs and thought I'd pop in to say hello.'' He smiled sincerely.
''Yes, much appreciated sir. I thoroughly enjoyed having the life scared out of me. I have to clean this mess now.'' Kass retorted sarcastically.
''Leave it, I'll get cleaners to sort it,'' Jason assured her.
''Hellloooo! I hear voices in the kitchen! Who is it?'' Juliet's cheery voice rang through. Juliet also came early but usually after Kass.
Juliet poked her head in . Jason straightened his back and put his hands behind his back, his face returning to the default.
''Good afternoon Juliet.'' He smiled and greeted Juliet.
''Did I disturb something? I heard laughing.'' Juliet has a sneaky smile on her face.
''Nothing important Juliet. Let's go sit down and leave this man to be.'' Kass eyed Jason as she left with Juliet. He eyed her back with a cold stare.
''Did he text you? '' Juliet asked when they returned to their desks.
''How dare you give him my number. What were you thinking?'' Kass whispered seethingly looking worriedly at the kitchen.
''I didn't give it to him. He asked for it.'' Juliet stopped and looked at Kass with a straight face. ''Was I going to deny him?''
''What? He asked for it? You should have said I didn't have one.'' Kass said.
''That's stupid Kass. You put it on your application form. If I didn't give it to him he could have just looked through files to find it.'' Juliet replied as she started rearranging papers on her desk.
''So why did he ask you for it?'' Kass asked, frustrated.
''I don't know! Ask him. Now stop pestering me about it- I have a shit ton of work to do.'' Juliet disappeared behind her divider.
In the evening, Kass had phone calls to make to clients. Most of them were old people who had haughty attitudes. She was having an extremely unpleasant time talking to one of the clients who demanded a refund.
Kass explained thoroughly in her speaker piece, ''I apologize, sir. We can't refund you for that. The company policy states-''
''I demand my money back! The service was terrible. My sales didn't double and I had no more calls than before from possible clients.'' The man on the other line yelled down the phone.
''I'm sorry sir, there was no guarantee in the first place that your sales would double. You signed a contract which stated that you understood this.' Kass tried to explain to the raging man.
''What?! Must have been fine print, because I didn't see nothing! I demand to speak to the manager!! At once, you good for nothing girl.'' He yelled. Kass sighed and asked Derek to go call the CEO.
''Sir, I am ending this call. Since you refuse to cooperate and stop verbally assaulting my staff I am breaking off your contract with us. Good day.'' The CEO ended the call and handed her speakerpiece back to Kass.
''Thanks for resolving that one.'' Kass smiled up at Jason. She felt emotionally drained after having to deal with the client. 4 coffees could not get her through the day.
The CEO studied her face for a second, maintaining eye contact as she awkwardly tried to break it.
''Would you like a break?'' He asked her.
''Yes please, my head really hurts,'' she replied and got up from her seat to head to the kitchen and get a glass of water.
The girls working nearby stared jealously at Kass. However, the CEO's piercing stare quickly made them get back to work.
