Under the night sky, the mansion stood secure, its doors locked tight to ward off any potential intruders. Inside, in the safety of Jason's bedroom, Kass found solace in his warm embrace. She nestled closer to him, her head resting on his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart.
"I won't leave you," Kass whispered softly, her words carrying a reassuring promise.Jason, his heart lighter with her declaration, asked with hope, "You won't?"
Her earlier contemplation about leaving had weighed heavily on his mind throughout the day, but he had given her the space to make her decision."You and me, always forever," she sang, her smile evident in her voice as she remembered the song that had been stuck in her head.
Jason held her tightly, gratitude flooding through him. "Kass, I love you so much. I hope you know that. I don't think I could be as happy as I am now without you," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper as he played with her hair.Kass beamed in the darkness, her joy palpable. She playfully ruffled his hair, and in response, Jason tickled her, their laughter filling the room.
"Hey, let's get some sleep. We'll have to deal with Alex tomorrow," Kass suggested.Jason nodded in agreement, wrapping his arm around her waist.
Together, they settled into a tranquil rhythm of slow, synchronized breathing. In the comfort of each other's presence, they slept peacefully.
In the morning, Jason and Kass, still a bit groggy, stumbled into the kitchen. Anne, already up for hours, had prepared breakfast for them. It did her heart good to see the pair of them getting along so well. She especially felt glad that Kass was bringing happiness into Jason's home. For so long, it felt like a cold place, despite the respect from Jason. When Kass entered and started living, she brought with her her optimism and joy. Anne secretly felt a bit like a mother, watching her child find joy, but she kept this to herself.
After breakfast, they prepared for the day and headed to the police station. Jason recounted the events at his estate, and the police decided to keep Alex in custody for another week pending further investigation.
When they returned to the office, their colleagues greeted them with cheers and concern. Kass had informed Juliet of the harrowing experience, and Juliet had gone and told everyone else, which slightly annoyed Kass, but she knew at least everyone would understand what had happened and not think her to be lazy. Jason smiled at everyone and took Kass's hand. Juliet and Jessica ran up to Kass, peeling her away from a frowning Jason, and began to ask her if she was alright.
''Kass, oh my god. I heard what happened. Are you alright?'' Jessica asked in concern. Kass forced a smile and reassured her that she was fine.
The day ran smoothly, with people popping by Kass's desk and asking her if she was alright. Some of them gave her chocolates and flowers. Kass didn't see Jason all day. Since he had missed several days of work, he had a lot of work, which had mounted up. Jason was holed up in his office all day.
Soon enough, the day came to a close. Staff began to exit the premises, and Kass too began to pack up once it started to get dark. Just then, she heard footsteps behind her. Turning round, she calmed down when she realized it was Jason. He had dark circles under his eyes and looked tired out.
''Hey, Jason, you alright? You look so tired?'' She frowned in concern and reached up to touch his eye bags gently.
''I'm okay, don't you worry. Are you alright? I hope your back doesn't ache.'' He started to rub her back. Kass chuckled and sighed. ''I'm fine. I guess...''
''What's wrong?'' Jason turned her round to look at her, realizing when he saw her face.
''He can't harm you now. I have so many security systems in place. I have specially trained men placed everywhere, and...''
Jason frantically tried to reassure her, hoping she wouldn't want to leave again.
''Mhh, thank you.'' She smiled up at him. Jason couldn't tell if she felt reassured.
Anne came to pick them up. The drive home was filled with Anne's cheerful chatter as the tired pair of Jason and Kass simply said a few words in return. They were both worn out from their return to work.
That night, once they had dinner and gotten to bed, Kass cuddled Jason once again.
''I love this moment of the day best,'' She told him.
''Really? Why's that?'' He asked her with warmth in his heart.
''It's you and me, alone. We can be ourselves completely, and I get to hug you all night.'' She explained, tightening her grip around him.
''You and me, always forever,'' Jason sang her favorite lyrics and chuckled as he stroked her hair gently.
Kass smiled and rested her face on his chest. ''You and me, always forever...'' She mumbled to herself and closed her eyes.
