Gabe POV
I rubbed my head. Another headache... better find something to eat. I slowly went around the side of the house. Maybe a walk will make me feel better....
I trotted along the side of the road. My feet were still bare. I kicked a little chunk of dirt. Bored and in a daze, I kept on walking until someone crossed the dirt road. Some guy with black overalls was crossing the road. His eyes were baggy and it looked like he was tired. He had something in his hand. I neared myself in so I could get a better look on this kid. He grabbed a hammer from his other hand and took a nail out of his pocket. "What are you doin'?" He turned to look at me. His eyes squinted with a sour glare. "I'm on the hunt. What do you see?" He got out of the way so I could see the item in his hand. It was a missing poster, and it had a picture of a boy with brown overalls. The tag read "Jackson Alexander."
I stood in silence. "I-- sorry, man. My friend told me about it." The guy looked at me with a small hint of pity. "Don't worry. You're good. Just, help me put up these posters."
I held his stack of papers and he nailed them to the telephone poles. After a while of doing so he sat down. "My name's T.J. Jackson's my brother, he disappeared. No person could find him. But that doesn't mean I'm giving up. He's family." I scratched the back of my ear. "So, he disappeared in the cornfield. I know that part. But why did he come? He must've had a reason to be here." T.J spit in the dirt. "Nasty farmers that live here usually get this weird package every so and then. I stole a look at it. Think it's marijuana. But I ain't sure, yet." I was getting interested. "Hey. I might have some information at my house. You can follow me." I got up, but he stayed sitting down. "Why are your feet bare?" What? Oh, hey...."I'll tell ya if you come over." He stared at me for a little bit. "Nah..."
"Look-- I got seaberry pie! It's world-winning."
He licked his lips. "Crunchy kind?"
"Sure."
Jerald POV (it's usually Geff but now I'm trying something different. Enjoy!)
"What a nice girl!" I said on the way home. Geff looked up. "Huh? Oh, yeah. I didn't really come for Jane. I was interested in Gabe's research. Who knows? He might become the new Sherlock Holmes."
"Maybe. He has the potential though, so there's a good chance."
A WHILE LATER....
We got inside the house and took off our coats. "What should we do for the rest of the day? I'm bored out of my mind," Geff said. I snatched a piece of bread off the kitchen table. I split it and gave one half to Geff. "Good stuff," he replied, mouth full. We both went up to our rooms, hoping that we could read some more of Dad's notebook. "Give it a break, Jerald. Maybe we could find some of his stuff in the attic." That wasn't such a good idea, though. "But how? Mom never lets us up in there, and you know it!" I said sharply. "You think I don't have a plan? I do, and it will work." Then he walked by and went to the living room. He opened the closet door, and inside was a bunch of clothes. Normally this looked like a casual storage compartment, right? Well, the attic door was right above. I helped Geff up so he wouldn't step on the shelves. He stayed up there for quite some time. Finally, I heard a relieving click, and I put him down. "You're getting heavier!" I rubbed my aching back. The ladder came down and we both went up. "It sure is dark in here," I said, looking around into the infinite abyss. "Yeah, well. Here's a light. Hopefully it still works." Geff flicked the switch with pleasure, only to get no response. "Dang it." He kicked the power box. "This thing's busted." I looked around with the very little light that came from below. I squinted, and my eyes met a small golden glow from some wall in the room. "Hey, here's some shutters!" I searched for some sort of knob. There was no stick to twist or pull. The string ended somewhere halfway of the window's frame. Geff came running (not really running but it was pretty fast) to me. "If we open this window, it'll light up the place. The string's gone, though." I pulled on it. My hands slipped from it every single time. Geff tried too but it made no difference. Some time later we came up with a conclusion and tried to pry the boards open. It was difficult because the shutter boards were rotting into place. I continued pulling until Geff had a screwdriver and finished the job. "Whoa." The light of day spilled into the room. Quickly we glanced outside. It was kinda hard to see, but the view was fantastic. The whole cornfield was visible. But so was the other one. I shivered a little. It was bigger than I expected. Geff went back and called me over. "Check this out!" He found a few boxes covered in dust. "There's some more stuff in these," he explained. Inside the box he opened were some old chemistry books. "Eh, some nerd stuff." He chucked them back in and rummaged through the other boxes. "We can find some sort of secret! C'mon, keep searching. Something might turn up." So we kept on looking around, trying to see if we could find anything that's worth well, you know, finding. I was about to tell Geff this trip was useless after all until we heard something. "Hey. Did you hear that? I think someone rang the doorbell." He slid down the ladder and doubled back down the stairs. I wasn't as quick and fast as Geff, but I did hear something. "Package, for, Geffrey Ledger Anderson?"
"Uh, yeah, that's me." I heard him say. But when I got down, he already shut the door, and he was staring at something in his hands. Geff had a small box, no bigger than a box of baseball cards. "What's that?"
"I dunno, I just got it!" He shook the little thing. "Who's it from?" I asked. He flipped it and checked all the sides. "Don't say. Guess I gotta open it. Might have something interesting inside." We took it upstairs and ripped open the lid. Inside was a smaller box wrapped in duct tape. "Another box? I was expecting something better than that!" Geff held the yet smaller box. He scoffed. "Wait. Hold up. I think there's something under the packing peanuts." I cleared it up.
"What is it?"
"Looks like a note." It was a folded-up piece of paper. It felt cold, as if something was inside. I turned it around. "It's for you." It didn't have any address. It only had the word 'GEFF' on the back. Baffled, Geff immediately unfolded the small paper. "Looks like it's from Gabe. What does he want now?" It was a small tape, not very big. "Um, play?" He loaded it onto the cassette player and pressed the button.

Alright. Hello? You hear me? Okay, good. So you already know. It's me, Gabe. Hi again. I already saw that your house is pretty far. So I already knew my mom recently upgraded our phones, and I decided to give you one of our old handheld ones. Don't worry! It's wireless, so you can call anywhere. And um, yeah, don't panic if you drop it. Those things are like, made of steel. But that doesn't matter. I was gonna tell you that I found a guy that can help me with the case of the Corn Boy, but by the time I actually MET this guy, you guys were poof! Gone. See, we're trying to find out about the sketchy farmer. The dude I met named T.J, supposedly, believes they're holding his brother captive. But we can't do it without YOUR help. And bring your brother, too. We need all the help we can get. So yeah! Go ahead! Try it out. Tell me if it works okay. Cool? Cool. See ya then.

"So that's Gabe, huh. Let's see if this thing actually works like he said so. Apparently, it's wireless, so you don't have to plug it in." Geff swiftly cut open the smaller box with his pocket knife. "What does it say?"
"Wait a minute. Lemme see..... No... kee.... Uh."
I looked more closely. "Nokia. It's one of the cool phone brands. Super durable." I knocked on the cold, hard, shell on the outside. "Let's dial Jane's number."
"Why Jane?"
"Because the genius of Gabe didn't give us his." Oh, right. "Besides, they have a family phone. I already saw."
We dialed the number. I went over to the tape and put it in the sock drawer.

But on the back, something that the two brothers missed, was a half worn-out tag on the tape that read,
