A Sight

Jane came to school with a frightened expression. "You okay?" She nods blankly. "I'm tired from last night's studying. Where were we? Oh, yeah, the information part." Her hands were shaking. "Are you sure? You don't look fine. Not at all..."

"I assure you I'm fine." Assure? This was some weird vocabulary. I put both hands on her head. We always did this when one of us had a nightmare at home. "Horrors of the past, horrors here and there, we don't need you. Now, we live to see one more day, without the bad life in our hands." Then I let go, and her eyes go back to normal. She touches her cheek. "What...where am I?"

"School. You were as blank as a white canvas." Jane blushed a bit and looked around in shock. "I had a vision...it was blurry...I need to go." I couldn't see clearly, but she put her hand over her mouth and started crying, right out of the room.

I sat up in my bed. The rain went pitter patter against the house windows. "The trash is waiting to be taken out, mister." Mom gave me a hard look. "You have GOT to be kidding me! In this storm???"

"You don't want to have your camera taken away, do you?" I groan and put on my bright yellow raincoat. The second I opened the door, a rush of water and wind hit my face. "I don't even know why I put on this coat! The wind just blows it away!" If I had left the door open for one more second, it might've blown away. "At least I have my hat," I say to myself. This was some typhoon weather. The usual alarm sounded for the civilians to enter and keep inside their homes.

I moved my foot a step. "I cand phel my moud!" If you're asking, I couldn't feel my mouth. It was that cold. Here's the cans, I think. The trash truck comes by and I throw the bags in just in time. Phew. I walk one step at a time to my house. "Now, that wasn't hard, was it?"

"The only thing that wasn't hard was getting soaked."

"Did you say something, Jacob?"

"No."

I head up to my room and put my hat on my nightstand. "I'm gonna be going to grease the train tracks tomorrow, so I'm gonna gosh darn hit that hay so dang hard not even a chorus on full swing is gonna get me out of bed." I blow out the candle and hum a little ditty until I can't no more and sleep.

The bell rang and I raced out of the room with my notebook in my hand and the trifold in the other. While passing the bathrooms, I hear an unsettling noise in the girls bathroom. I go inside, journals and more in hand.

"Jane? Are you okay?" I hear some sniffling in the third stall. "Yeah. I had a dream...I didn't like it. Not one bit." I could tell she was holding back tears when she said that. She came out, wiping her eyes. I always did this too with Jerald when he was little. "Come here." She buried her head in my chest. For a girl my age, she was a little short. I wonder how Jerald coordinated. "Aren't...we going to be late...to class?"

"No, it's fine. At least I have an excuse."

"Of course not. I just had a dream. There was a bunch of people, and some guy in tan overalls."

My eyes go numb. "We should get going. There's a quiz in science." I pull her out of the bathroom. "What? Why?"

"I'll explain at home, but come with me first."

My pants were pressed out for school. Mom must've known about Ashley Ledger, because I didn't normally wear black jeans. About Ashley. She's one of the hottest girls in our class. "Mom, have you been reading my diary again?"
