Your eyes flew open and a gasp fell from your lips as soon as you heard the loud clap of thunder coming from outside your house.

You shifted around in discomfort and hugged the blankets tighter around your shoulders both from the anxiety you felt from the storm and the fact that you were shivering from the chills due to being sick.

Your eyes felt heavy but falling back asleep wouldn't be easy considering you're terrified of thunder.

But you're on your own since you have the flu right now and Hanni has so much going on right now that you don't want her to come over and risk catching it.

You whined as you continued to shiver and you squeezed your eyes shut, desperate to fall back asleep so you could forget about the thunder and your terrible sickness.

But just as you were about to slip into another deep sleep, your phone started to ring.

"Hello?" You mumbled as you answered it, too weak to even open your eyes to see who it was that was calling.

"Hey, baby. Just calling to check on you." Hanni spoke.

"Oh, hi, my love." You spoke. "I'm okay, just tired."

"Are you still throwing up and running a fever?" She worriedly asked.

"Unfortunately, yes." You sighed and rubbed your eyes. "But I'll be okay. I'm so tired. Can I let you go so I can try and rest?"

"Do you think you can? Since you're sick and the thunder is so bad?" She questioned.

You could sense the concern in her voice as the words left her lips.

"I hope so." You spoke. "I love you, Hanni. Thank you for checking up on me."

"You're welcome, darling. I love you too." She said and you ended the call before pulling the covers over your head.

You started to drift off to sleep again, jumping occasionally when the thunder was so intense that it shook the house slightly.

But just as you thought you could manage to block it out and finally fall back asleep, the covers were pulled off your head.

You jumped and let out a loud and startled gasp, thinking some stranger had broken into your home.

But, much to your relief, it was only Hanni.

"I'm sorry, baby. I didn't mean to scare you." She said with a sad expression.

Your relief faded away and you became worried that she was going to catch your terrible flu by being here with you.

"Hanni, you shouldn't be here."

"There's nowhere else on this earth that I should be right now than here with you." She said as she sat down beside you.

She put her hand on your forehead and her touch felt so comforting.

"You're burning up. How long has it been since you took medicine last?"

"About three hours."

She frowned.

"Still a little while before you can take more." She sighed. "I'm so sorry I didn't get here sooner, baby."

"Hanni, I love you very much, but I told you to stay away for a while. If you catch this flu and miss out on group activities, your company will flip."

"Well, too bad so sad. Because you're my girl and you come first." She spoke as she brushed a lock of hair behind your ear. "You're worth catching the flu and getting into trouble. Because I want to take care of you."

You smiled a little; for the first time in a day or two, since you had been too sick and weak to do so until now.

"Besides, if I get sick, you can take care of me. That wouldn't be so bad, right?" She asked as she laid down next to you.

You closed your eyes and leaned into her touch as she caressed your cheek.

But you jumped again as the thunder crashed once more.

You whined and Hanni quickly curled up under the covers beside you and pulled you close.

"Shh, baby, it's okay. I've got you."

You buried your face in her shirt and clung to her tight as it came again.

"Don't worry, my love. You're safe, I'm here."

You looked up at her and saw her brown eyes already focused on you as she gazed at you lovingly.

"You're okay. You don't need to be scared. I'm here to take care of you."

You smiled a little again.

"I'll take care of you until you're better again."

"And then I'll nurse you back to health because you're definitely going to catch this flu."

"My girl is worth it." She sighed as she kissed your head. "Just relax, baby. Forget about everything else and focus on me."

You did as she said and closed your tired eyes as she hummed and brushed her fingers through your hair.

"Thank you, baby."

"For what?" She wondered.

"Coming over here to take care of me when I needed you most. I was trying so hard to make sure you didn't get sick but having you here with me makes me feel safe."

"I hope you know that I love you and I'm happy to take care of you. Even if I get sick and no matter what I have to go through, I'll always be here for you. You're my everything."

"I want to kiss you so badly but I can't, so kiss my forehead, please?"

She chuckled before kissing your forehead a few times.

"Get some rest. I love you so much."

"I love you too." You said as you snuggled up to her and started to fall asleep.

"And if you feel sick during the night, wake me so I can help you through it. Just let me take care of you, darling."

"Okay." You agreed, cracking a small smile as you fell asleep in her arms with your head on her chest, wondering how on earth you ever got so lucky.
