It was a Wednesday afternoon, a few days after my dad called and Phoebe found me drunk. Phoebe had called Julien and Lucy over for some little get together (they saw each other every day anyway but I found how close they were endearing so I didn't mention it at Phoebe's excitement of them coming over) and we were waiting for the pair to get here.
I was curently settled on the couch reading one of Phoebe's books while she pottered around the kitchen looking for something.
"Raene, have you seen my phone? I swear I put it on the counter this morning." She asked, walking in to the living room and huffing.
"Have you checked your room?"
"Of course I have, what do you take me for?" She feined offence.
"An imbicile, Phoebe. That's what." I paused for a second and looked up and over her form standing in the doorway, chuckling at the sight, "Also, couldn't help but notice. Are you wearing my hoodie?"
She looked down at herself and what looked like a light blush formed on her cheeks, "Oh uh- I- I must have accidentally picked it up from your stuff on my floor.." her words came out fumbled and rushed, it was actually quite amusing. I watched as she fiddled with the strings on the hood, "I can take it off if you want-"
"It's fine park girl, it looks good on you." I smiled at her ever reddening cheeks, she did look adorable in my hoodie in all fairness. I wasn't wrong in saying that.
"You are-" but before she could finish her sentence a knock on the door interrupted her, "Ugh, that'll be the boys, hold on."
"Where'd the excitement go! You haven't seen them for 15 hours!!" I laughed out and she just glared at me, turning for the front door and letting Julien and Lucy in.
I heard an amused, "Why do you look like you've powdered a ceg of blush on your face." from Lucy and a mumble from Phoebe in return.
"Lucy, Julien hey guys!" I beam at them, having become quite comfortable in their presence.
They wander over to the couch and plop themselves down, Julien beside me and Lucy on the armchair. "Rae! How are you doing? How's the stomach?" Lucy asks.
"About the same as when you asked me yesterday." I chuckled, it hadn't actually really been that long since they'd seen me but I honestly didn't mind their company.
I'd been forcing myself to be more present around people, despite the absolute ache for wanting to just repair the already battered wall around myself.
It was a recipe for disaster, letting my gaurd down like this would inevitably cause me more harm then good but at this point I deserved it, whatever shit would come for me was something I would welcome with open arms."Damn, if I'd known my godly presence was unwelcomed here I wouldn't have come." Lucy places a hand over her chest much in the way Phoebe had earlier and scoffs dramatically, "You know you love us really."
"Oh how could I offend such an otherworldly being such as yourself, my mistake." I laugh along with Julien who'd just sat back to watch whatever was going on, Phoebe had left to make coffees and hadn't come back yet so it was just the three of us. "Of course I don't mind you guys being here though."
"Good." Our back and forth ended with Lucy looking triumphant.
Phoebe came in with mugs in her hand a few minutes later, a solemn look adorned her face. She looked like she'd seen a ghost, "Hey, you doing okay?" I ask her tentatively, she plastered on a smile and nodded.
"Yeah, you guys enjoy your coffee. I'm gonna get some air for a bit, I need to make a call. Found my phone by the way." I could tell something was off, her demeanour had changed so suddenly and it had me worried indefinitely.
I watched as she quickly made her way out to the balcony, not sparing any of us another glance, "Is she actually okay?"
