Hello and happy spooky season! Before we begin, I'd like to mention that while I wouldn't rate any of these as mature, these will be creepy (hopefully)! If you're not okay with that kind of thing, you might want to sit this one out. There will be trigger warnings before each chapter begins so you know what you're getting yourself into. Without further ado, let's begin!
A chilly wind blew through the town as the lights began to flicker off one by one, causing the night to become completely dark. The already barren trees shed the last of their leaves as the gust rattled their branches and the autumn colored leaves were swept along on the wind as it howled eerily. As the wind blew across the rooftops, it disturbed a small group of crows who flew off into the night, cawing loudly as they disappeared just as the clock struck midnight and let out twelve loud chimes that echoed in the crisp air, causing a group of friends to jump slightly at the noise. One of them felt cold all of a sudden and shivered, drawing their blankets in closer around them. Or, maybe it wasn't cold at all and was instead fright.
"Monk, you look cold. Do you need another blanket?" Artificer asked as she saw the young slugcat shiver. "No, I'm fine. The power outage startled me is all," she replied, looking at the TV that was now completely black. "Aww, how are we supposed to watch our scary movies now? I was into the weather cooperating and giving us super creepy wind for ambiance, but this power outage is taking the creepy way too far!" Rivulet complained as they mashed the buttons on the remote, trying to get the TV to do something. "I dunno, I kinda like how the power went out. It makes things a lot more spooky," Nightcat said, still snacking on popcorn despite the movie no longer even being on. "I have some flashlights in my backpack so we can use them. I was gonna use them to prank you guys in the middle of the night, but this works too!" Rivulet said, getting up and blindly fumbling around in the dark in search of their backpack. "Thanks Riv! That's super nice of you-wait what?" Artificer began to reply only to register what they had said halfway through. "Hey, I have an idea!" Hunter called out, jumping up in excitement. "We should tell scary stories!" Saint nodded in agreement at her idea. "That's a good way to pass time until the power comes back. Shall I tell you about ascension and the cycle's true nature-" he was cut off by a glare from Artificer and she glanced pointedly at her children. "Not that scary! I already didn't want them watching this movie and they do not need to hear about the cosmic horror that is void and echoes!" One of her pups looked up at her with confusion written all over his tiny face. "But mama! It wasn't even that scary! Look, it was so not scary that sib fell asleep!" he gestured towards his sibling who was happily sleeping on their mother's lap. After a moment of delay, she sighed and nodded. "Alright, just nothing that has anything to do with ascension. Saint, I'm looking at you." Survivor grinned and rubbed their paws together, their face eerily lit by the flashlight Rivulet had given them. "I've got a good one..." Nightcat became excited at those words, rubbing their paws together and trying to look menacing but failing miserably. "I know which one you're talking about! I'll help you tell it..."
