Things I've learnt since you've been gone:
Smile
For the people that are still looking
So they don't see your tears
So they don't see your pain
So they don't see the months of yearning desire
So they don't see your heartache
So they don't see your grief
So they don't see your scars
So they stay convinced
Of your perfection
That you have a perfect family
That you have a perfect life
Just a normal single mother
Who's lived through moderate strife
But smile
F*king smile
Because if you let them see
They won't like it
They won't like you
They will not show you
Empathy
If you don't smile
For the pictures
That nobody is taking
For the portraits
That nobody is
Taking
But just smile
Because then they won't know
Then they won't see
They'll look through the mask
That screams unconvincing
Happy
Don't ever let it show
That you love someone
Who isn't here
That you want more than
Life can give
That you try too hard
That what you see
And what you desire
Can never really be found
So smile
Make yourself look perfect
And maybe they won't ask
Smile
Hide it all away
And
Never
Ask for help

Joyce
