Chapter Eleven- Evil Desire
Dane Venice stood in front of both Goldmoon's royal daughters. One was passed out in the arms of the other, growing paler with every passing chilled wind.
Opal curved defensively towards both Dane and Aldric Kane. The prince's heart-shaped face and lips pulled into a beguiling smile. His ice-colored eyes pierced Dane's with a warning that had him lowering his blade. "Kneel, " he commanded.
From where Avelina sat, she watched Danes' body fight against the intensity of the command. She had heard of what an Alpha or Beta of a pack could do to their subordinates; however, she had never seen it in action. Dane tried to give the illusion that this was his choice, setting his blade on the asphalt wet with dew. His knees dropped to the ground, echoing into the midnight.
Avelina felt the magic inside of her run and hide in fear. She could feel the power of Aldric; she prayed she would never meet the Alpha and king who was his brother.
Opal gripped onto Danes shoulder. "Dane." She said his name with a warning in her tone.
Dane shrugged her off, saying lowly, "Do not fight him; he's unhinged."
Avelina tried to remember the rumors about Aldric and Evander Kane. Both were ruthless brothers who had done horrible things, although she couldn't remember what, only that they involved death.
Aldric stalked forward, an army of men dressed in leather coats and ferocious fanged smiles following after him. Their eyes shone with the want of blood. Avelina swallowed harshly, attempting to wake her sister discreetly. All that happened was the shaking of limp limbs.
Aldric was dressed, unlike the men who followed him. He wore a suit that was ironed without a single crease in the fabric. He reeked of nutmeg and vanilla, off-putting to the darkness in his expression.
His eyes slid over Avelina, observing every curve and crevice in her petite frame before doing the same to the unconscious warrior in her arms.
Avelina bared her teeth at him, unleashing her wings to cloak her younger sister.
Aldric chuckled lightly at this. "Oh, don't fret, you poor bird. I won't hurt her. I only want you." The prince smiled darkly.
Avelina swore her blood turned to ice.
A groan cut through the night, and her sister stirred beneath her shield.
Elwyn pushed on her sister's wing as she tucked it back. Avelina, however, did not let go of her sister, gripping her leather shirt tightly as she tried to push herself to her feet.
"Let me up, Avelina." She growled.
Avelina held tighter, feeling her sister's arm muscles contract from her grip. She shook her head, keeping her eyes pinned on Aldric.
Elwyn looked confused at her sister before blinking and taking in her surroundings.
She wiped her nose and stared at the black spread across her fingers.
"I see our shadow friend tried to take magic from you," Aldric said, peering curiously around Opal, who moved to block him.
"Don't test me," Aldric said, staring and smiling into Opal's white eyes despite his threat.
Opal took a daring step forward, placing the blade against his chest, right where his heart was.
Aldric raised his hand behind him as his wolves stalked forward, growling. They looked ready to shed their leather jackets for fur and sharp canines.
Aldric traced the length of her blade with his finger. "You won't kill me."
Opal pressed the blade into his chest enough that it pierced his shirt, drawing a single drop of blood.
Avelina barely saw the light wave of his hand at his waist. Dane was behind her instantly, his sword driving through her right wing.
Avelina screamed loud enough that Elwyn wished she could cover her ears. She ignored the burning of her eardrums as Avelina's back arched, thrusting Elwyn to the cool road.
Elwyn's cheeks bit into the pavement, adrenaline shot through her as she swept behind Dane and kicked him with enough force to have him sway. However, he let himself fall to the ground. The blade ripping from her wing in the event. Elwyn snatched it and, without a second thought, drove the blade into his shoulder. Enough for pain, not enough to kill a full blooded werewolf general. Elwyn's eyes were lit with rage, and Dane looked at him with pleading, haunted eyes.
"I couldn't-."
"Shut up." Elwyn snapped, cutting his apology short. She left the blade in his flesh where he half-kneeled in the road. Opal sat behind Avelina, trying to hold pressure to the gaping wound. Feathers littered the earth, and sweat dripped from her perfectly white skin. Avelina panted between cries.
Elwyn took in the weight of the situation. Her body tilted, and she barely held herself up. Aldric's face swam in front of her. She listened as Dane ripped the blade from himself without a sound of pain, the sound of metal clamored into her thoughts.
"Who are you?" Elwyn asked, taking out the human weapon she had acquired. She followed the steps she had seen the man do, cocking it and aiming it at who she assumed was either Evander or Aldric Kane. For some reason, Elwyn figured it was the latter. Her hand shook, and her vision dotted black. "The shadow leader drained you, Elwyn. You will not be able to fight me or anyone."
Elwyn cringed at his use of her name. She hated the sound of it rolling off his heart-shaped, evil lips.
Aldric made a sad face at her, clicking his tongue sympathetically. "Unfortunately, there was nothing to take. You're just a human—nothing special, a nobody."
Elwyn felt her body go rigid. She knew what and who she was. She had always thought that. But to hear someone say that-.
"I will rip your tongue out of your mouth." She said, but it came out as more of a whisper as her body swayed right into Danes blood-coated shirt.
She struggled for a moment, but Dane only held tighter. Elwyn looked between her sister lying against Opal and Aldric and his stupid posse.
"What do you want?" she asked, her voice strained as she fought to remain calm. "What every royal wants, " he said, flashing his teeth at her.
"More power."
