Chapter 24- Diamond Jail

Elwyn woke up to a sharp pinch in her arm. She moved trying to make the discomfort leave, her eyes fluttering open. She looked down to where the feeling was and found an IV sticking out of her arm.

Elwyn stiffened, looking around where she was and found herself once more in Evanders room. Her breath hitched as she caught sight of him standing outside on the balcony. He wore a half button deep blue shirt, with black pants, dark hair swaying against the cold wind that passed into the room. Elwyn gulped, looking up at the bag of medicine that was attached to her. It was red and oddly resembled blood. She tugged at the IV and winced at the tingles it sent through her arms.

Oddly enough she did feel better but she still ripped it from her inner arm. Elwyn clamped her hand down on the area and turned as Evander walked around her, feeling the almost empty medicine bag. "You're lucky it was almost done or else I would have put that IV right back in." He sighed, sitting beside the bed in a lush black chair.

Elwyn glared at him. "Why am I in here?" She asked.

Evander sighed. "Hanai found you nearly dead wandering the castle."

Elwyn chewed her lip. Interesting that the woman didn't say what she had seen.

Evander took the IV pole and moved it aside, looking at her with uncertainty. "What happened, Elwyn?"

The girl felt tingles down her spine at the use of her name. "I must have ripped open my stitches." She shrugged, tugging her hair forward over her bruised neck. Evander nodded, his eyes flickering to the discolored flesh.  "I see." He said brushing his hand over his chin.

Elwyn had a feeling that he didn't believe her. "Your blood was infected by the shadow people. They tried to drain you of magic but couldn't find any, so your body began to reject the shadows essence. If you had magic and it was taken you would be rendered defenseless. However, as a human with no magic...you should already be dead."

Evander furrowed his eyebrows at her, studying her, his gaze traveling from her face, to  her neck and every visible part of her.

The girl shifted under his heavy gaze. "You have magic in you. That is the only explanation." He said with a questionable tone.

Elwyn scoffed, shaking her head feverently. "Trust me, I don't." She said bitterly.

Evander opened his mouth to respond but a curt knock on the door cut him off.

The king didn't make any move to answer it, instead training his eyes on Elwyn. The knocking grew more aggressive and Evander rose from his chair and flung open the door angrily. "What, Dane?" He sneered.

The man shoved a letter into his hand. "Read this." He urged. Evander looked down at the torn open envelope with  his name scribbled over it.

"What is this?" He asked.

Dane looked past him at Elwyn. She narrowed her eyes at him glaring. "What?" She snapped. "It will explain what I can't. It will tell you what happened to her."

Elwyns attention turned to the letter in Evanders hands and without a thought, she flung herself out of bed. She ripped the letter from his hand and before either man could do anything, she held it dangerously over the flames of the fireplace. "What the hell, Elwyn! I'm trying to help you."

Elwyn gave him a dark glare, her body shaking from the exertion. Evander looked between the two with eyebrows drawn together, a look of irritation gracing his chiseled features. "What does that mean, Dane? If you tell him, he will kill my sister and- and others." Elwyn couldn't bring herself to say that Dane was also on that list.
