Brooks didn't care about the gun in her eye line, she ran to Sophia before Daryl could grab her. So, instead, Daryl chose to raise his crossbow, Merle who was behind him, raised his gun. "You shoot that and I'll kill the blonde. Take her with me." Kaden warned. His eyes were trained on Daryl, he wasn't aware that Brooks was now using her body as a shield as she sat in front of Sophia.
Brooks and Sophia were hugging tightly, Sophia was crying into Brooks' neck. "I thought I'd never see you again." Sophia cried.
"Me too." Brooks whispered, squeezing Sophia so tight she was afraid she'd break her new best friend. However, Brooks overestimated her strength, she was still only ten years old.
"Don't do anything stupid." Daryl warned, Rick pushed himself past Cam and Merle, standing next to Daryl in the very narrow doorway. He was relieved to see Sophia, but not so relieved to see the gun pointed at the two girls.
Rick took a deep breath. Sure, he used to be a policeman, but he'd never been in a situation like this. "Alright, let's not do anything rash, okay? We can talk about this." Rick tried.
"Well, we ain't gonna." Kaden scoffed. "I'm taking her with me, and none of y'all are gonna do shit about it, because if you do, I'm just gonna shoot her."
Rick nodded. "Daryl, Merle, Cam, go back downstairs. Let me handle this."
"I ain't leavin'." Daryl denied.
"You haven't got a choice. You want Brooks and Sophia to be safe? Let me handle this." Rick whispered to him.
Daryl's eyes flickered to Brooks, before he slowly started backing down the stairs. Merle was going to protest, but Daryl dragged him down the stairs. "You're leaving Bambi's life in that copper's hands?" Merle hissed.
"No, man, we're handling this our way. Come with me." Daryl responded. Cam stayed to console the group, comfort Carol.
Kaden could hear the cry of Carol downstairs, the chatter instantly travelling up the stairwell. "How many of y'all are down there?"
"Too many for you to handle." Brooks responded, pulling Sophia to stand up. Both girls stood there, close to each other, holding hands. They needed each other for support.
Kaden waved his gun, getting their attention back to it. "Either of you move and I'll blow your fuckin' brains out, you hear?" He shouted, the group downstairs heard, which elected another sob from Carol. She tried to run upstairs, but Shane and Cam stopped her.
"Alright, alright!" Rick yelled. "What do you want?"
"I promised my group a girl. I'm taking the pretty blonde with me, and the black one can live. How say's it?" Kaden offered.
Rick shook his head. "Not an option. How about we let you leave? How about we don't kill you?"
Kaden grinned. "You think you have the control here, man? I'm the one holding the gun here. And, I'll pull my trigger before you get to yours. So, we got a deal?"
"No." Rick refused. "We're not sacrificing Sophia to avoid getting a little blood on our hands. You pull that trigger? There's no way you're leaving this building alive." Anger laced Rick's tone, a deadly wave in his voice.
Kaden nodded, clenching his jaw. "Alright, alright. Fine. But, I am leaving this building alive."
"I'm trying to make sure everybody leaves this building alive." Rick assured him. He didn't let his eyes wander from Kaden, but he could see Daryl and Merle outside of the window. They scaled the building and were now sitting upon the porch's roof. Very, very slowly, Merle lifted up the window.
