"You are never here! You are not a part of this family."
"I am a part of this family. Hell, I made this family. There would be no family without me!" Miranda yelled.
Tucker honestly made her want to pull her hair out.
He stared at Miranda for a while. He was tired. Tired of the late nights, missed holidays, anniversaries, and the weekends when she was called away. She was never home for a whole 12 hours. Thanksgiving passed and she didn't even come to dinner or at home at all. This was not what he signed up for.
Tucker went to work after dropping Tuck off at school.
"Dam, Tucker. You look like you've seen a ghost," David commented playfully.
Tucker sighed heavily before speaking, "It's Miranda. She's been working so much that I barely see her anymore. And it's been taking a toll on us. She just loves her career more."
"You married an aspiring surgeon and now she is one. You didn't think this would happen."
"I thought she would have balance." He mumbled.
"Tucker, have you ever considered trying something... unorthodox to shake things up?"
"Like what?"
"You ever heard of wife swap? A group of us were talking and some of my buddies from golf and we thought it was genius."
"wife swap? Are you guys serious?"
Eric, a father of three, nodded. "Hear us out, Tucker. We've all been through rough patches in our marriages. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can help."
Tucker stared at his food, contemplating the idea. The notion of a "wife swap" seemed surreal, even risky. This was turning out to be a hell of a lunch break.
"I think we all should give it a shot. I can talk to my Tuesday golf buddies and see what they think. I think if we do two months with the opposite home lifestyle it would be great."
"Any of your friends have a stay-at-home wife. Who is devoted to the family and kids."
"Yeah, I actually have two. Ben and Greyson."
"Well, I need my wife to switch with one of theirs if we are doing it. I want her to see what that role is like." Tucker stated.
Ben leaned on the wall and watched his daughter play. She was running fast on the turf toward the goal. He cheered loudly when she scored.
After the game, Ben walked to where his wife was. She was the coach of the team.
"Good job ladybugs. I will see you all at practice."
"Hey Daddy, did you see me score?"
"I sure did! Good job baby girl. Let's go get ice cream to celebrate." Ben was big on celebrating small victories they did not win but she scored and he was proud.
"Hey baby," Ashleigh greeted.
"Hey," Ben greeted as well giving her a light smile. He slid his hand into hers and grabbed his daughter's hand.
"You driving us both to get ice cream."
"Well, it makes no sense to leave your car," Ben gestured.
"Right...I will meet you two there."
"Okay," Ben replied simply. "So tell me all about school today cupcake,"
Later that night after dinner, Ben helped with Layla's bedtime routine. He walked into his bedroom and saw his wife sitting on the bed.
