A year passed and Miranda was lying in her apartment. Today was her day off and she dropped Tuck off to school. Tucker would be picking him up since it was his weekend with him.
Ever since her divorce, she felt at peace. Her marriage was beyond repair and they had too many irreconcilable differences and that's exactly what she filed under. She moved out and into her own apartment and was finally happy.
At first, she was sad and upset because she never failed at anything but the more time went by the more she could breathe.
It was 1 in the afternoon and she stretched out across her bed reading a good book. Her cell phone chiming brought her out of the words she was reading.
"Hello Dr. Miranda Bailey," Miranda greeted as she put the phone to her ear.
"Hi, Dr. Bailey. I am nurse Hairston from Northen Shores Elementary school. I am calling about
"Layla," Miranda voiced sitting up. "Is she hurt?"
"We tried to reach her mother and father but they did not answer. I left a message on their voice-mails but you were next on the list. Layla is pretty shaken up and
"I'm on my way right now," Miranda said getting up. She had on a sundress but walked to find her sandals.
Grabbing her purse, she left the house and drove to the school.
Inside the building, Miranda was directed to the nurse's office.
"Mandy!" Layla shouted.
"Hi, baby girl! " Miranda chimed. "What happened?" She asked looking at her tears rolling down her face.
"Look," she gestured removing the cloth from her knee.
"Oh my goodness what happened Lay bug."
"I fell during recess."
"I tried to help her but she wouldn't let me and continuously cried saying she just wanted to go home, which is why I called her parents."
Miranda nodded, " may I?" She asked gesturing to her rolling stool.
"Yeah and here is my first aid kit,"
"Okay thank you," Miranda responded grabbing her some tissue.
"Dry your eyes, honey, How did you fall?"
"My shoestrings were untied and I didn't know."
"Oh my," Miranda voiced. As she cleaned the scrape with the wound wash and a new cloth. She dabbed it and let it air dry for a few.
"It's okay to be embarrassed for falling Laybug," she said rubbing her hand. Knowing she was more hurt about it being in front of so many people.
"They all laughed and pointed."
"They can't help themselves. That's why you have to go back into your classroom with your head high and embrace the battle scars. Who cares if they laugh. I can guarantee that all of them have fallen before. Every last one of them has even peed and pooped on themselves before." Miranda teased tickling her stomach.
Placing a bandaid on her knee Miranda kissed her forehead and gave her a big hug. God, she missed her so much and her father.
"Are you ready to go back to class?" Miranda asked.
"Will I see you later?"
Miranda paused and combed her hands through her curly hair. "Call me when you get home,"
"Okay, I love, you Mandy,"
"I love you too. I'll see you later okay?"
"Okay,"
