“Gradu-fucking-ation baby!” We all laugh as Carl raises his hands in the air, celebrating his success. The ceremony had been great and now everyone’s milling around. Looking around I can see a mixture of smiling faces, parents hugging sons and daughters, and friends saying farewell. I know that technically this is gonna be goodbye to the lads, but hopefully we’ll keep in touch.

“Mate, you aren’t meant to be that enthusiastic about leaving us all!” Kade feigns hurt and I put a hand around his waist, smiling with a glint in my eyes as he pretends to wipe away a tear. “I just can’t believe you wanted to get rid of me so, so bad.” He frowns, and I almost burst out laughing.

I can see the guys looking slightly confused as to whether or not Kade is being serious, so just to wind them up, I put on a caring face. “It’s okay, we don’t need them. I guess we’ll just have to go our own way...” I trail off, sighing a little as I let my eyes look into the distance. Both Kade and I begin to turn and walk away, when Carl speaks again.

“You guys know I didn’t mean it like-“

Kade doesn’t let him finish before turning around and running to Carl where he hugs him tightly. When Carl starts squirming, Kade only squeezes tighter before letting go swiftly. “It’s okay, I’ll forgive you.” He walks back to me and grabs a hold of my hand.

It takes a moment, but Carl realised what happened and scowls at Kade. “Dude. Not cool.”

The rest of the guys are struggling to hold back their laughter, by the looks of it.

“Okay, well we should probably be off, and we’ll see you later!” I swiftly change the subject, still struggling not to laugh at the absurdly upset expression on Carls face. Carl is quick to grin when mention the party that’ll be held at his parent’s house later. I can already imagine the amount of drinks there will be there as I wave goodbye, turning to walk away with Kade.

“Have a lovely evening boys.” Kade grips my hand a little tighter and I have a feeling from the muffled coughs and laughter that the boys know something I don’t. But I push away the thoughts (despite being curious as to what this might be), deciding that I’ll find out if and when I need to, and I’m sure I can wait till this evening.

As we walk out of the field to the car park, I notice Tony off to the side, smiling with his parents as they all hug and he pats his younger sister on the head. They’re laughing at a joke, but there’s something off about Tony. I know that he’s upset, and no doubt feeling guilty. It’s been a couple months since the incident of mysterious text messages ended, and since then, none of us have been talking to Tony. Usually, I would be able to forgive people for their mistakes, but the death threats and the pain he’d put me through had long passed crossing the line. I don’t think I’ll ever really forgive him for that. And when the rest of the guys had found out, they’d been even more pissed off than I’d been. They’d refused to talk to Tony, or even catch his eye in the hallway.

I can’t blame them though, since I’ve been the same since it all happened. I don’t want anything to do with him.

Apparently, he’ll be moving to America, leaving behind everything and starting a fresh. But to be honest, I don’t have it in me to care about what he does with himself. He can do whatever he wants.

“You okay?” Kade nudges my arm slightly, snapping me out of everything. I disentangle my hand from his; not letting the disappointment stain his features before my arm wraps itself around his waist. He smiles. I find myself mirroring his expression, my lips curving upwards as we continue walking away from the university, for the last time.

“Perfect.” I’m not even being sarcastic. Everything is perfect.

“You guys! You’re so damn cute, I just want a hug from both of you.” Sophie’s voice is the first thing I hear as I get off the motorbike. I don’t know how, but she seemed to know we were gonna be coming to the cafe as she’s waiting outside as soon as Kade parks the bike.
