Zoey P.O. v

The cool afternoon gust swept past my face, caressing my face. The sun shone down, creating a glow over the earth and a sense of warmth that hugged my skin.

My heart refused to slow down, even after leaving his overwhelming presence. I could feel the afternoon whiff of my skin and the fresh scent of nature that surrounded Marco's private estate.

Rebecca and I strolled the lengthy path, since Marco had his home in the middle of a forest. It was a long walk to civilization.

As we walked, my mind raced with thoughts of him. The way his piercing black eyes had locked onto mine, and how my breath caught in my throat. There was something about him that both intrigued and frightened me. His presence was overpowering, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of vulnerability around him.

Rebecca sensed my unease and nudged me with her elbow. “Hey, are you okay?” she asked, concern clear in her voice.

I forced a smile and nodded. “Yeah, I'm fine. Just a slight shaken up, that's all.”

Rebecca gave me a sympathetic look. “I know he can be quite intimidating, but try not to let it get to you. Remember, we are here to relax your mind.”

I appreciated her words, but they did little to calm the storm brewing inside me. Marco had an air of mystery surrounding him, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to him than met the eye.

As we continued our walk, the wood seemed to come alive around us. The chirping of birds filled the air, and the rustling of leaves beneath our feet provided a soothing soundtrack. I took a deep breath, trying to let nature's tranquillity wash over me and ease my racing heart.

We were close to the outskirts of the woodland, and the sound of civilization brought a sense of relief. I could hear the noise of cars and the hustle and bustle of people going about their day from a distance. They act as a distraction, pushing Marco to the back of my mind.

“Where are we heading to first?” Rebecca asked, the excitement bubbly in, I could hear her from her voice.

“A local library.” I told her with a smile, excited as well. The local library was my sanctuary. It was a place where I could escape from my thoughts. The familiar smell of old books and the hushed whispers of an avid reader always brings me back here.

It gives me a sense of peace and tranquillity.

For what seemed like an eternity, I felt unrestricted, free, like I've got control over my existence. It's been a while since I had this in authority over myself. Ever since Marco came back to my life, he's been a control freak.

The sound of a car racing down the road brought me back to reality, its tires scraping the ground as it reversed. My heart quickened its pace as I watched the doors swing open, revealing a group of guys dressed in all black. Masks concealed their faces, and the glint of weapons in their hands made my blood run cold.

Rebecca stood by my side, her eyes wide with fear. We had been enjoying. I instinctively reached for her hand, seeking comfort in our shared fear.

The masked guys stalked towards us, their every step sending shivers down my spine. Panic welled up within me, but I knew I had to stay strong for both of us. We locked eyes, silently agreeing to protect one another at all costs.

“Who among you is Marco's fiancée?” one man demanded, his voice laced with a aggressive tone.

Marco's fiancée?

Before either Rebecca or I could reply, Two of the guys gripped Rebecca and shoved her inside their van. All this while held me at gun point, threatening to pull the trigger if I made any move.

All I could do was watch the scene unfold, motionless and powerless. I felt helpless as I watched their retreating car disappearing.

Silent tears rolled down my cheeks, my throat tightens and my stomach sank. I know that I'm the one they are looking for, and they have mistaken her for me.

A heavy sense of accountability weighed down on my shoulder as I regarded them take her. I knew what Marco's rivals were ruthless and deadly.

His enemies lurked in the shadows, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. And now, Rebecca has become a victim.

As I stood there, I couldn't help but foresee a wave of fear wash over me for what Rebecca will have to endure in their hands. It's terrifying to even imagine.

My body shook as I sobbed, blaming myself.

I blamed myself for not being able to protect her, for not foreseeing the consequences of us walking alone in this isolated place. Marco had warned us of the dangers that lurk outside. If only I wasn't being adamant, Rebecca wouldn't be in this situation now.

“How am I supposed to tell Marco about what happened?” I whispered, my voice quivering. I didn't even realize I was shuddering until I spoke.
