Exiled general

Felix and Hyunjin urged their horses to run as the burning smell of smoke filled their noses and the sound of screams and metal clanging hurt their ears.

The elf was trying really hard to push flashbacks from the war out of his mind. Instead he focused on the presence of the prince beside him, on the presence of his dragon in the back of his mind.

"We're going to be ok" Crystal seemed to say but Felix barely heared her.

They reached the main plaza from a smaller route and before they could even see it their horses got frightened by the noise and came to halt.

The two proceeded by foot, Hyunjin confidently, Felix a lot less. Before he could waltz into the mess, the elf pulled him back beside him and peeked to see what they were getting into...

The square was divided into two halves, both filled with people to the brim. Both halves held what looked like bed sheets with messages painted onto them. One of the two groups looked a lot more armed but the other was definitely bigger.
In the middle of it all was a man, broad shoulders and annoying grin, a battle axe in his hand. Felix recognized him from the ball:

"That's Taesung" Hyunjin said, surprised:
"He used to be my father's general... Seungmin kicked him out before he could even bargain with me. What I did to dragon riders was mild to him"

"Well this mess has his name written all over it" Felix answered.

As he tried to find the best approach to it all, he found himself reading some of the slogans:

"NO DRAGONS NEAR MY KIDS!!"

"FOR THE SAFETY OF MY TOWN"

"BAN DRAGON RIDERS"

"NO KILLERS IN NEW WORLD'S KINGDOM"

On the other side he recognized one of the kids Hyunjin had talked to at the market: he was watching one of those hateful slogans burn, happily entertained. Only then Felix noticed that his ears were pointy.

What he didn't notice thought was that Hyunjin had left his side.

When the prince set foot in the square and people started to notice him, silence fell little by little.

Only the wind and the clack of his boots on the stone pavement could be heared as he approached Taesung.

"Well well, the traitor prince has finally decided to show his face" Taesung's voice was so raspy that Felix wondered if he was part orc.

A few laughs started but a single glare from Hyunjin cut them off.
The prince, against all odds, opened up into a nice smile:

"Taesung" he recognized politely:
"Should've predicted that you'd take a liking to the streets, since we cast you out of the palace"

"I can see that you're still nothing like your father" Taesung said, low enough that most wouldn't hear.

"Maybe I don't want to be like him" Hyunjin bit back.

Taesung's laugh was big and unexpected, causing everyone to focus on him:

"Citizens of New World's kingdom!" he announced:
"You prince is weak! He listened to the elves' slithering words and he fell in their trap! Our kindom will be crawling with monsters, our families will be scared to even get out of their houses! They killed our king and they'll kill us all too..."

As part of the crowd cheered, Taesung shot an evil smile to his rival, ready to continue:

"We need to drive them from their homes, even shed some unworthy blood if necessary. I know you don't want them here and I'll even go to war to protect you. WHO'S WITH ME?"

Felix's blood froze in his veins.

"What will Hyunjin do now?"
