Life at the palace

The next few days were hectic for Felix.

First of all Hyunjin did talk to Seungmin about the possibility of making him general and he was enthusiastic.
He said that having an elf in such a position would create someone for all the dragon riders to look up to. This way they'd feel more certain that their needs were going to be brought in front of the king and protected.
Seungmin also asked Felix if he'd like to supervise the construction of dragon dens in the forest around the capital, to which the elf instantly agreed.

He only realised later that maybe it was too much work.

Luckily Chan and Innie instantly stepped up: since the dens were going to be constructed near their property, after a few talks with Hyunjin, the two were named Dragon protectors.

Jisung instead, after being invited to the palace and receiving an official apology from the prince (for the wanted poster mess) ended up spending the entire day with Minho.
Thanks to his approval he was instructed to take care of performances for future ceremonies thanks to his talent for music and spectacle.

Felix spent his days marching from one side of the palace to the other; flying from one side of the kingdom to the other, trying not to collapse out of exhaustion.

Meet the soldiers.
Realise they need so much more training.
Talk to the head of the guards, Changbin about it.
Accompany Hyunjin to lunch with high nobles.
Send soldiers everywhere in search of Taesung, who had disappeared into thin air.
Check on the dragon dens.
Talk to the other dragon riders in the capital to reassure them.
Parade the streets to a temple alongside the prince.
Prepare the safety measures for the coronation ceremony.
Visit the borders and meet the lower officials.
Talk to the head scientists about military projects uniting dragon riders and humans.

And so on.

The only moments when Felix felt free were the evenings, when all the upper palace staff would meet in Hyunjin's quarters for a private dinner. Sometimes Chan and Innie would join too.

They'd eat the delicious food Minho prepared, laugh about the funny things that had happened in the day and relax. In those moments Felix felt like he was having a normal hang out with normal friends.
He didn't feel like a general at all and the gorgeous boy next to him surely didn't feel like a king.

Staring at him tbrough the haze of alcohol Felix would let his imagination fly:

"If we were normal people would me and Hyunjin possibly be... more? "

"Would I be allowed to flirt with him without major consequences?"

"Would I be allowed to hold his hand and hug him tight everyday?"

"Would I be allowed to show my affection for him in public without being judged?"

"Would he maybe... develop feelings for me too after a while?"

But then he shook his head and realised that despite the carefree mood, they were still in the prince's quarters.
They were still in a palace.
They were still a government.
And his fantasies didn't matter.

"Hyunjin will wear the royal crown"

"And I'll keep him safe"

"He'll marry a princess"

"And I'll look from afar"
