Infinity Night #Wattys2015

Chapter 6

Mikael's POV

I'm 21 years old and this is my fourth time attending to this event. Even though I lived in England, my biological father flied me here when I was 18 to participate in The Infinity Night.
I was on the line waiting for the guys in front of me to take their positions behind the girls. I was frantically looking for Gabriela when I spotted her looking back in our direction with a scared expression on her face. All I wanted to do was run to her, hug her and make her feel safe, but I know that if I did that, the guards would shoot me since that's against the rules. So I positioned myself right behind her and never once looked any other way that wasn't her. I could see that she was examining her surroundings, trying to choose a route. During this few months, the staff of The Infinity Night, would bring us here, only the males, to study and memorize the area and all the possible routes that the girls could take. I have been working out extra hard to be fit enough for tonight because the girls have a twelve minute head start and I have to run faster and use all my senses to their limit so I don't lose her. This thing lasts until sunrise, if the girl hasn't found her mate or hasn't been claimed, then she's free to go. I will catch her, mark her, mate with her and we'll be together forever.

Gabriela's POV

I'm running so hard that my legs hurt and are shaking a little and its been barely ten minutes.
I can't believe that I'm here in the middle of the woods running like crazy. Why the hell did I came here with Sarah? It was extremely stupid of my part to leave with a total stranger without even telling dad, but I guess that I was in a some sort of spell. I think that she hypnotized me. Yeah, that's the only logical explanation I can come up with right now. Too bad that I snapped out of that trance too late. Guess that fear mixed with the adrenaline and the pain of being out of shape brought back some common sense in me. It was like if I was a zombie.
Suddenly I tripped over a rock a fell on my left side scratching my legs and arms, but luckly no bone has broke. I tried to stand up quickly, but my shaking body was making it hard. When I finally stood up, I scaned my surroundings. Now I have no idea where I am or which direction I came in, so my plan of getting to the highway seems to have gotten harder. Since the only thing I heard where insects and the wind blowing against the trees, I decided to walk. I walked for five minutes until o spotted a small clearing filled with flowers, a few big rocks and a small river running through it. I made my way over there and washed my face and arms, then I laid on the ground surrounded by the flowers.

"Well, well, well. Hello!" A familiar male voice said and I sat up quickly.

"Zach? Oh my God! They got you too! Are you okay? Did t-" I was cut off by him grabbing my waist once I stood up.

"Shh. I know you're not my mate, but that doesn't mean we can't be together." He whispered.

"W-what?! Z-Zach what the hell are you talking about?"

"She died four years ago. She killed herself because didn't felt loved, she felt lonely. You remind me of her. The only difference between you two was that she had freckles and her breasts were smaller, but you are better. That's why I acted the way I did in school. Its like if she reborned in you." He leaned in yo kiss me, but I turned my head and escaped his hold leaving at least seven feet between us.

"You really are crazy! I can't believe that I started to trust you! I'm leaving. Don't even think of going near me ever again!" With that I turned around and started walking towards the trees until he gripped my arm stopping me.

"Let go of my arm!" I demanded through gritted teeth. I may not know how to fight, but I can always kick him where the sun doesn't shine and make a run for it.

"Hahaha! I don't think that you're in any position to demand for anything. I'm going to have so much fun with you tonight." Now he pinned me against a tree caging my body flushed to his. Right when I was about to kick him you know where, I heard a growl from behind me and that's when I got scared. It sounded like the growl of a dog only louder, deeper and more scary.

"MINE!" The creature yelled with a deep scary voice and my heart beat picked up drastically.

"Oh shit!" Zach exclaimed. Then in the blink of an eye I was on the ground while Zach was being thrown across the clearing and dissaoeared between the trees. The creature took off chasing him and I jumped up to my feet and ran away aimlessly trying to put as much distance between me and those two as possible. I ran and ran and ran until I had to stop. My lungs were burning and my legs and ribs were hurting from the amount of running I've made.

"Mate." A monster like voice said from behind me and my body tensed when his arms slipped around my waist and pulled me to his chest.

"P-please! Don't do this. Don't hurt me. I'm tired and cold. I just want to go home." I cried and sobbed. I was too weak and tired to fight.

"I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to protect you and take care of you my love." A guy's voice said completely replacing the monster's from a few minutes ago.

"W-who are you?" I asked him shaking in slight fear and cold.

"I'm your mate and I'm taking you with me." That's the last thing I heard until I blacked out due to the lack of food, the dehydration from running do much, the cold and the adrenaline and fear all mixed together.
