Chapter 30

Mikael's POV

Today is my birthday and I feel like shit. Gabriela has been avoiding me all week and it hurts. Literally. Our mate bond has gotten so strong that just the slightest separation between us hurts. Its like an ache in your chest, like when your heart gets broken. If your heart has ever been broken, you know what I'm talking about. She barely talks to me and she's always out. I haven't been able to find out where she goes because I've been soaked in pack work and tons of papers. Today I just wanted to lay in bed with my mate, just the two of us, but she's not around now, so I guess its just me today, again.

I get out of my shower, dress in black basketball shirts and my black Crocs. I walk into the kitchen and find Nate sitting on the counter smiling widely creeping me out a little bit.

"Uh...what's up?" I ask him and take a water bottle out of my fridge and drink it all.

"Nothing. Just go get changed. We're going out." He tells me and hops off the counter and grabs an American Eagle bag and hands it to me.

"I don't really feel like going out today. I think I got the flu." I lie and he shakes his head.

"Nonsense. You're coming with me and that's final." He states and twenty minutes later I'm in my car, in the passenger's seat and Nate is driving us to the middle of nowhere while listening to the top hits if Coldplay.

"This better be good." I warn him and he laughs.

"Mate. You will be thanking me everyday after this." He says and winks.

He parks the car in front of a big building that looks like it needs a paint job and windows replacement. We walk up to the door and he stops.

"Well, this is as far as I go. Just follow the orange arrows." He winks, pats my back and walks away. I open the door and see an orange taped arrow on the floor and I follow it and the other arrows ahead. I'm led to an ice skating track and a pair of skating shoes with my name taped on with my name and a piece of paper next to it. I pick it up and start reading it.

Put the shoes on and position yourself under the spotlight.

I put the skates on and right on cue, all the lights turn off leaving me in darkness except for the spotlight that's right in the middle of the track. I clumsly skate towards it and look around me trying to figure out what's happening. Then all of a sudden, the lights turn back on and See You Again by Wiz Khalifa ft Chad. I squinted my eyes due to the sudden light and I made out a person wearing a red coat skating towards me.

"Hi." Gabriela said shyly and I smiled. She was wearing a red coat, black leggings and her hair was in a fishtail braid to the left side and she had only eyeliner and mascara on.

"Hey beautiful." I whispered and she blushed. I pulled her against me and kissed her deeply.

"You have no idea how much I missed doing this." I confessed and she blushed again and a guilt expression crossed her face.

"Yes. Actually I do. I'm so sorry. I avoided you all this time knowing that you were hurting because if it. But all I was doing was planning this for you. Nate told me that you've never had a birthday party before since your mom couldn't afford it and I wanted to make up for all of those years. I'm sorry for hurting you." She mumbled at the end and I was crying happy tears making me look like a pussy. Good thing its only she and I. I only show my emotional side to her.

"Shh. Its okay. It was totally worth it. I love you Gabriela. I want you to know that and never doubt it. You have made me the happiest man on earth ever since the day I met you. Thank you." I tell her and she smiles and kisses me and I kiss back eagerly.

"Happy birthday Mikael." She whispers and I smile. I grab her hand and we skate for a while listening to the playlist she chose for me and I must say that she did an amazing job because I like all those songs. Two hours later we were laughing and walking towards my car.

"Put this on your face." Gabriela gave me a black oversized shirt and I looked at her confused.

"What for? Aren't we going home?" I ask.

"Nope. This is far from over yet. Now let me help you." She ties the shirt around my face leaving me blind. Then she helps me sit on the passenger's seat and seconds later I feel the car moving.

During the while ride I tried to get her to tell me where we were going, but she wouldn't budge. I felt the car stop and my heart was beating rapidly. She grabbed my hands and led me to an area where the ground felt like it was filled with small rocks.

"Okay. Now you can take it off." She tells me and I yank the shirt off. I look around me and my eyes are wide open in amazement. We're in a park with a lot of trees. There's a rocky path illuminated by Christmas lights on top in front of me.

"Do you like it?" Gabriela asks insecure and I grab her and kiss her.

"I love it." I replied, then u grabbed her hand and followed the path. It led us to a gazebo like area that was naturally formed by the trees. It was all dark and I could barely see, so I pulled Gabriela close to me by placing my hand around her waist.

"SURPRISE!!!" A lot of member of my pack and my four best friends yelled and I was left in shock. I looked down at Gabriela and she was smiling widely at me.

"Go ahead and have fun. This is all for you." She told me and i kissed her again and everybody cheered. There was a DJ playing incredible music and mixes and I spent the while night having just pure fun. I drank a few beers, talked and joked with my friends and danced with Gabriela. I also kept an eye on her whenever she wasn't by my side just in case someone were stupid enough to try anything with her. She's mine and I want everybody to get that through their heads.

"Mate. When are you planning on mating with her?" Lex asks.

"Yeah. When? You know, you might've marked her, but it will soon fade away if you don't mate with her soon. Her mark has started to fade and a lot of other guys are starting to notice it. In a few weeks she'll be in Heat and you know how that is. Not even the gay pack members will be able to resist her." Matt said and I was starting to get angry and jealous at the thought of someone else laying their filthy hands on her.

"Mhm. And she'll be on Heat more constantly until she mates with at least someone. You better hurry up before the mark completely fades and she's available again. As long as she's marked, any male will think it twice before approaching her." Nate says and I look frantically for her and see her talking and laughing with Patricia and Daniela who's Matt's mate.

"I will. I already have a day in mind." I told them and they nodded. I took out my phone to tell my sister about my plan and she's exited about it. We will go over the details next week when I visit her and mum.
