We followed the instructions that were given like every other lesson. This time it was a bit different since we needed to practice the spells on each other. I was a bit nervous about this. Not because of Mattheo and all the talk about his father. It was because I wasn't really good at DADA, really bad to be honest.
"You can go first." I offered Mattheo after we stood on our feet next to our tables.
He did the spell and as expected I got paralyzed. Like I said; expected, but I was still amazed by his ability to do it perfectly in one go.
After I was de-paralyzed I tried the spell too. I however, only managed to paralyze his arm. I know my DADA skills aren't as good as Mattheo's but I still was a bit disappointed. The difference was to big, even for my ego."Again." Mattheo ordered bluntly.
I tried over and over, since Mattheo asked me to do so over and over. However, I only managed to paralyze the body part where the spell hit him. It was so embarrassing. My only wish was to disappear at this point.
Mattheo sighed after many attempts and walked over to me."You have to do it like this."
He slowly made the movement with his wand so I could copy his movements. He was also making sure he wasn't paralyzing someone in the process.
I was surprised by his actions. One, he talked. Two, he looked at me. And three he helped me. My warming up technique was clearly effective. Couldn't say the same about my DADA technique though.
I tried to do what he had done before but it didn't make any difference. Now it was my turn to sigh. I have never been good at DADA which always makes me stressed. Since there are tests in a week time I know I have to do this work in order for me to get a good grade, which makes it even more frustrating than it already is.
Mattheo walked back over to me."Can I... ehm help you?"
I was confused why he was asking since he was already helping and I clearly needed it.
"Yes, please in fact." I gratefully answered.
He took my hand in his and made the movement I was supposed to make. The asking for permission made a bit more sence now I suppose but on the other hand it was also sad that he felt like he needed to ask. I wasn't going to lie and say it didn't feel good, because it did. My back was against his chest and his muscly arms were around mine. The feeling felt so natural yet his touch made my skin almost tingle. The tingling feeling moved its way to my stomach too. It felt like something I'd never felt before. But because of who he was, and this may sound really hypocritical, it was also scary that he made me feel like this.
"Again."
His demand brought me back to earth. I could only hope I didn't make it awkward or weird.
Together we did the spell and this time I, or we, actually managed to do the spell. This I knew because I accidentally paralyzed a random boy by doing so. That wasn't my concern at the moment though because I was too happy that it had actually worked."Thank you so, so much." I thanked Mattheo.
For the first time I really looked him in his eyes. Of course I had been looking at him multiple times for multiple seconds or even minutes, but his eyes never dared to look at me. But now they did. Mattheo's eyes were beautiful. They were brown, but not like his hair, they were lighter. His long lashes enhanced the beauty. The light that was coming through the window made his eyes almost sparkle. I was brought into a trance by them. And then he looked away again.
