Arriving at the hospital dressed in a suit was not the best way to go unnoticed but even still, he preferred the attention over not seeing Emma at all before he went.
Sure enough, his nerves were now sky-high as he thought of how he wanted to convey his words later on and the best way to express everything he was feeling.
Well, hopefully without anyone noticing how on edge he was about an entirely different thing at the same time.
By now he needed no guidance to get to the room where Emma was and he just headed there right after asking at the front desk if he could.
The nurses smiled as he walked through the halls, Yuzuru merely bowing his head slightly in response.
Eventually, he arrived at his destination, finding his girl in the exact same place as he left her.
Yuzuru kissed her forehead before sitting down and grabbing her hand while checking some emails on his phone. He chose against opening social media, knowing that there was a big chance he saw something that wouldn't help his nerves.
He stayed for about one hour in that position until he felt a gentle squeeze in his hand.
Quickly looking up, he found her looking at him with a weak smile.
"Hey, beautiful."
"This is a nice way to wake up. You look very handsome."
Yuzuru couldn't help but smile. If she was making jokes and playing with him straight out of waking up, it was good news for sure.
"Only because someone insisted on me having a decent suit."
"I think that someone was very right."
"How are you feeling?"
"Drowsy... probably from the meds. But no pain so that's good... Did they tell you how it went?"
"The surgeon said he removed everything and that the surgery went as good as he expected. I'm sure they will tell you everything in great detail and medical talk whenever you're feeling ready."
"Good. now we just have to wait for the results to know if I need chemo or not."
"Even if you do, everything will be good."
"Yeah, I think so too."
She squeezed his hand again and he was about to say something when his phone started ringing.
Looking at the watch, it wasn't hard to tell why.
"Let me just take this."
Emma could tell it was his mom right away, her voice clearly audible through the line. It wasn't even hard to tell how gentle she was being with Yuzuru and Emma could guess why as well.
"I'll be there soon. Thanks, Mom."
"You have to go." She said even before the phone was disconnected.
"Yeah."
Yuzuru didn't want to go now that he just had her back, but he had promised her.
"At least I woke up before you went. I wanted to wish you good luck."
"I'm glad too. Now I know it will be okay."
"I will try to watch from my phone or something."
"Just make sure you rest properly. I will come back to you as soon as I can"
"We both know you will be doing interviews until late and it's okay. Just come back to me when you can, get some rest before you do."
Emma knew that it was useless to ask him to get rest but it didn't mean she wouldn't try.
It turned out that her expectations for the hours to wait were almost spot on.
The press conference had gone very well in her eyes. It was easy to tell how nervous her boyfriend was but at the same time and as he always did, Yuzuru said everything in a careful but direct way.
He didn't try to convince anyone that the decision to turn professional was the right one, he merely explained why he was doing it and what people could expect from that moment forward
The truth was that he didn't need to.
She watched part of the interviews after as well and was more than satisfied with his answers.
Yuzuru wasn't afraid of saying things and she was very proud of him when he explained how some situations had made him feel through his career.
If it wasn't for the tiredness of the meds, Emma would have watched every single word that he uttered to the public but she had also promised him to get some proper rest.
Emma couldn't be sure at what hour he arrived by her side again. She woke up with the subtle noise, something that wasn't at all his fault but only due to her military career.
He looked completely exhausted and it wasn't hard to understand why. It had been hours since Yuzu first started the conference.
"Hey" she said in a gentle voice "You should have gone to the hotel to get some rest like I told you to."
"I can't sleep without you anymore." was the only answer he gave her and Emma only nodded. If it wasn't for her meds, she was sure she would be in the same situation.
"How was it?"
"Tiring."
"Reaction doesn't seem bad."
"I haven't checked yet."
"Don't do it now either."
Emma moved to the edge of the bed and made some space before gesturing for him to lie down.
"I don't know if we should... I don't want to hurt you."
"I'm a doctor and say it's fine. Just come here. At least let's enjoy the fact that they moved me out of ICU."
"Alright..."
Yuzuru slowly removed his shoes, suit jacket, tie, and belt before finally settling on the bed by her side.
All of his doubts were thrown away when she cuddled into his chest slowly. Feeling her was the best thing he could have asked for after the past days and everything that happened in their lives.
Hopefully, this would turn out as a challenge that they had successfully conquered and gotten out of even stronger.
It was just a matter of time until everything went back to normal.
