Emma wasn't sure about what happened next and she would soon find out that she missed a whole week of emergency trips and mess.

She woke up all alone at a military hospital in Washington, not sure of anything that happened after she passed out.

However, it didn't surprise her to see the Major entering her hospital room soon after.

"Anderson, you look well."

Oh, Emma might have been under plenty of painkillers, but she had a few things to settle with this man and nothing could stop her from saying what she wanted.

"That's all you have to tell me?"

"Captain...I'm not sure I understand what you mean."

"Major, with all due respect, cut the crap. This was no army mission."

She couldn't give less of a shit about who he was, what they did to her shouldn't be done to anyone.

"I understand but..."

"No. I'm not a CIA agent, don't ever make me join them on a mission where you could place anyone else. Especially not by fooling me into thinking I was going on a regular army mission."

The man lowered his head and nodded.

"I understand."

At least the old man understood that being quiet was probably his best option at that moment.

"I was discharged. Honorably discharged with enough medals to make most recruits widen their eyes and I did all of that in mere 5 years. I fought for my position and rights for years and you still found a way to take me off service.
I don't know why you suddenly needed me, but let me be clear, this was my last mission."

"Captain, you should think about this. You like the job."

"No, I don't like being shot at. I have had more than enough of that."

"But..."

"No. You will brief me about what happened and you will get me on the next flight to Japan as soon as I can fly."

The man gulped but quickly started telling her about what happened that night.

They had managed to leave the house right after she passed out, it turned out that the operative wasn't even being held at that house. It had all been a rouse to kill the agents.

Somehow, this knowledge made the whole thing even worse for her.

2 of them didn't make it, they were already dead by the time the team managed to leave the house.

It didn't surprise Emma that they had taken them all off Israel on that very same night. She knew how the secret services worked on that place and the last thing the CIA needed was to get in a war with them.

She had been in an induced coma for a whole week, mostly to protect her body from the traveling and because of the surgery that she needed to get on her abdomen.

True brand new scars, how nice.

"There's something else, Captain."

Emma stared at him for a few minutes with a glare that could scare any man, no matter who.

"What is it now?"

"You can't go back to Japan."

"Excuse me?"

"They are very strict with their borders because of the virus..."

"I don't care what you have to do, but I have to go back to Japan."

However, as much as she wanted to go back, it wasn't as easy as making a call, not with the world in the chaos that it was currently.

She made the Major promise her that he would try, no matter what he had to try. Emma had to see Yuzuru, at the very least hear his voice and know that he was okay.

As if she wasn't the one laying on a hospital bed.

"I need my phone." She said and the man quickly retrieved it from a bag near the bed.

"Captain, we are sorry about how things turned out."

"I'm not interested in those apologies. Just get me to Japan."

With that, the man finally left the room and she quickly saw how many texts and missed calls she had as soon as she powered it to the charger.

Yuzu seemed to be just fine from how much he tried to contact her. The last text hit her deep, but it was expected from him.

'Please just tell me that you're ok.'

He had texted it 2 days ago and she was already feeling bad that he didn't get any answer.

With the luck that she had, it was unlikely that she would be back in Japan any time soon. That meant that if she could protect him from any pain she would.

Emma hit the call button without even looking at the time and was greeted by a sleepy voice.

"Emma?"

She did her best to get the drowsiness out of her voice and finally spoke.

"Hey, Yuzu."

"You have no idea how glad I am to hear your voice."

"I'm sorry, I had a few days without connection."

"It's fine, I just worry. Are you ok?"

"Yeah, yeah. Just tired."

"Thank you for calling then. You probably just want to rest."

"I wanted to hear your voice."

"I miss you too"

She smiled at the phone, it was incredible how this man could make her forget everything within seconds. It was true that Yuzuru was truly one of a kind, in every single thing.

"How is it going with the mission?"

"You know I can't tell you much."

"I didn't ask anything about it. I just asked how it was going."

She chuckled, he was right as always.

"Had a few hard days but I think it will get better now."

"I'm glad... As long as you're safe."

"Yeah"

"You would tell me if anything was wrong, right?"

Emma looked at the IV on her arm and almost wanted to laugh. She could only imagine his reaction if she truly was honest about her current situation.

"Everything is ok"

"And you're lying."

"Yuzu..."

"I know you, tough girl"
