Chapter 14: Change

Carina's POV:

I was doing some laundry when I felt a gush of fluids drip down my legs, I looked down at my pants and noticed my water had broken. "Ah shit.." I sighed. I waddled out of the laundry room to the kitchen. Maya was standing there looking at me. "Babe, I think your water broke.." She looked at me. "Thanks, Captain obvious." I rolled my eyes. "Why aren't you panicking? I thought you would be wanting to rush to the hospital." Maya said. "Uhh because I deliver babies for a living? I can easily ask you to check how dilated I am, also I can track my contractions." I looked at my wife.

I was laying on the couch timing my contractions. "My love is there anything I can do for you?" Maya sat down next to me and placed her hands on my stomach. "Si, I'd like for the pain to stop." I groaned. "I think it's time to head to the hospital." She looked at me. "No.. my contractions aren't 2 minutes apart and once they are then we can go." I said slightly frustrated. "Alright.." She sighed. "Baciami." I replied. Maya then leaned over and kissed me. "Mmm.. that helps the pain." I moaned quietly. "How?" She asked curiously. "Oxytocin is known as our love hormone, as it is released when we have loving physical touch, it creates this anesthesia-like effect when we are in pain." I explained. "Ohh." She raised her eyebrows as she smirked. "Dio mio bambina.." I laughed.

My labor was now progressing quickly, I was about 6 centimeters dilated which meant my contractions were less than 5 minutes apart. It was go time. "Maya!" I yelled as the pain got worse. "Yes my love?" Maya ran out of our bedroom to me. "Its time." I looked up at her. "Its time?!" My wife got excited. "Si, now can you get the hospital bag and help me into the car." I moaned. "Yes of course." She quickly came over to me and helped me.

Once we got settled in the car, Maya drove off to the hospital. Rowan is staying at her Aunt Andy's house while I give birth then she'll be able to come meet her baby brother later on. "I can't believe this is happening." My wife looked at me. "I can't either, but I'm excited." I smiled through the pain. "Aghh." I moaned. "I'm going as fast as I can, babe." Maya looked at me in panic. "Grazie." I nod.

I was now in a hospital room, with my wife holding my hand. "Can I get an epidural now?" I groaned. "Yes you can, I'll be back with the supplies." Jo replied then walked out of the room. "We are having a baby." Maya looked at me and smiled. "Si tesoro, we are having a bambino." I kissed her. She placed her hand on my stomach and talked to our son. "Hey bambino, I was wondering if you could stop causing Mama so much pain." She looked at my stomach. I smiled. "He started kicking when he heard your voice, I think he'll be a Mommy's boy." I chuckled.

Dr Wilson came back with the supplies to do my epidural. "Alright Carina, can you sit up for me." Jo said whilst putting gloves on. I sat up so my back wasn't against the bed. Jo placed the needle into my back. "Agh." I groaned. Maya squeezed my hand. "It's over, now just let the pain meds kick in." Jo took her gloves off and checked our baby boy's heartbeat. "His heart rate is strong, which is great." Dr Wilson smiled. "Grazie." I smiled weakly. "Your welcome, I'll be back soon then you'll start pushing." Jo said before walking out of the room. I nodded. "Just a few more hours." I kissed my wife. "Then we'll be able to meet our bambino." She kissed me back.

"You can do it my love." Maya was being so supportive of me. I squeezed her hand tightly as I pushed. "Just one more Carina, then you'll get to meet your baby boy." Dr Wilson smiled. I nodded while sweating. "Aghhh" I pushed. My wife kissed me, I then moaned. "Keep doing that amore mio it helps." I said.

Just a few minutes later I heard our son screaming and crying. I looked up at Maya who was in tears. "Its alright Bambina, he's here." I smiled while crying tears of joy. Jo placed the bambino on my chest. "He's so precious." I looked down at the small brunette boy who laid on my chest. "He's handsome." Maya kissed my head. "So what name have you chose for him?" Dr Wilson asked me and my wife.  I looked up at the blonde. "We've decided on Matteo Alessandro Bishop-Deluca." I kissed Maya. "That's a beautiful name." Jo replied.

Rowan came with Andy to meet her baby brother. "Mommy, Mama!" The younger blonde runs up to us. "Ciao bambina!" I smiled at Rowan. "Is that my fratello?" She had the biggest smile on her face. Maya nodded. "What's his name?" Rowan asked. "His name is Matteo." The older blonde said to our daughter. "Ro and Mat!" Rowan giggled at the nicknames she gave her and her little brother. Maya picked up Ro and placed her on the bed. The eight year old then crawled over to me and looked at the newborn in my arms.
