Chapter 17: Illicit Affairs

Maya's POV: 

I walked into the station. "Good morning Chief." Vic winks. "Good morning to you too Victoria." I smile and go up to my new office. I was just recently promoted to Battalion Chief right after New Years. I was still setting up so there were boxes everywhere. As soon as I sat down there was a knock on my office door.

I sighed and got up, I opened the door. "Lane?" I said in disbelief. "Hey!" He had a smug look on his face. "What are you doing here?!" I started to get anxious. "Kid-" He started, "Don't call me kid." I cut him off. "I just wanted to say congrats on getting promoted." He smiles. "Hm well I don't need that from you." I scoff. "I have my wife and station family for that." I go to turn around but then Lane grabs me by the hair. "Get your hands off me!" I yell. He covers my mouth and locks the door. Before I know it he starts attacking me. "Lane stop it!" I kick and scream. "Hush, your acting like a little baby!" He grips me tighter.

I grab my phone and press on Carina's contact, The phone starts ringing, She answers. "Maya?" The brunette says, but I couldn't say anything. "You think your bitch of a wife will come rescue you?" Lane says in pure anger. He snatches my phone from my hands and hangs up. He continues to beat me up since he was so angry at me. I just took the beating, But I knew my wife would come get me.

I didn't know what was really happening. All I can remember is my wife's voice. "Bambina?" It was faint but she rescued me, I knew she would. I hardly could hear the sirens that came from the aid car. "She's flatlining!" Andy yelled. "Maya stay with me!" Carina cried out. I felt paralyzed, My body was numb..
