Grian POV

Grian hated having to lie to scar, but he knew that if he didn't tell him that he had miraculously escaped Scar would immediately think he was suspicious. a villain.

He took a deep breath. Knock knock.

Scar's dejected, grieving face lit up the second he saw Grian. Grian could see Scar jumping up and down.

Scar must have thought I was dead. Grian thought to himself. Honestly, so did I.

Grian's thoughts were cut short by Scar's enthusiasm. "You're alive! I never thought I'd see you again! What happened? Tell me everything!"

Grian spent the next half hour trying to settle down an enthusiastic Scar.

"Sit down so I can tell you my story!"

Scar started teasing him: "Aye aye, captain!"

"Okay! Now let me tell you!"

Grian hated the thought of lying to Scar, but he knew he had to. There was no chance of Scar accepting anything if his best friend suddenly became a villain. He didn't know if he could handle losing that friendship.

"Well, after I was kidnapped, the villains blindfolded me and took me to their lair. When they took it off I was standing in a pitch-black room. Enigma and Redstone were right in front of me. Enigma threatened me for information with a knife, but by some miracle I managed to convince them I didn't know that Scar Goodtimes was a hero. They let me go because I was useless. All I can be is thankful that I survived."

These lies are killing me. Managing to spin the story in his head, he hoped Scar believed him.

"Wow! How are you alive!"

Thank goodness Scar was buying it. Grian didn't know what he would do if he had to figure something else out.

"I have no clue. I'm still alive though."

"That's a miracle."

"Yeah."

But Grian couldn't tell scar about his experiences. He couldn't tell that X was the Admin or that Impulse was Voltage Viper or that Ren was the King or...

Pearl.

No one could know about Pearl.

No one can ever know.

Scar POV

Grian was back! Grian's not dead!

A miracle.

But he was acting weird. He didn't seem like Grian. He seemed like he was hiding something. Something important.

He said he was tortured yet showed up at his door smiling

He said he barely survived yet acts like it's a normal day.

Then Grian went to his room.

Grian cried.

Scar had never heard Grian cry before. Only once. When Taurtis...

Not Taurtis. He couldn't handle Taurtis. Even after all these years it still hurts.

Nothing made Grian cry. He was always a happy, mischievous gremlin. There were only two things that could do this to his gremlin. He either watched someone die or was shown someone who died was brought back to life.

It couldn't be the second. They had watched Taurtis... die. That word hurt after all these years. It hurt so bad. Pearl was long gone.

Was Gem okay? Impulse? Ren? X? Mumbo? Who had these monsters killed?

He would talk this over with Canary tomorrow. Jimmy would know what was going on.

He hoped Jimmy would survive. He had talked about having to sell a family heirloom to pay for rent. Even with a Hero's discount. Despite what the world thinks, being a hero isn't all fun and games.

The hidden pieces

Nobody could know about the hidden pieces.

No one can ever know.

Especially not about the feeling he got in his heart when he looked at a little pesky bird.
